1. They've been corrupted by people who needed to

destroy the opposition they would have mounted to the radical changes planned. The Kochs and others like them started using mass marketing techniques almost as soon as they were developed for commerce and now use the internet and other mass communications as means for destruction of our existing ways. They used their money to infiltrate and corrupt our universities, setting up schools within them that teach theories that once were considered not respectable and even ridiculously and obviously wrong.

Lincoln would never say this about today's conservatives: “What is conservatism? Is it not the adherence to the old and tried against the new and untried?”

And Justice Louis Brandeis said this in various forms: “We may have a democracy or we may have great wealth concentrated in the hands of a few, but we cannot have both.” We are living the proof of this now.
