A coastal storm will develop off the mid-Atlantic coast tonight and head northeast. This will bring a chance for precipitation after midnight tonight. The precipitation could start as rain or a mix of rain and snow for coastal sections, but should turn to all snow by Thursday morning's commute.
Snow will continue into Thursday morning, coming down heavy at times, with blizzard conditions also possible at times. Snowfall rates of 2"+/hr are not out of the question. This will cause treacherous driving conditions and travel is not recommended.
Snow will taper off Thursday afternoon into Thursday evening as the storm pushes away from the area.
TIMING and PRECIPITATION
A passing shower is possible this morning, followed by a brief period of sunshine.
A period of light rain is expected Wednesday night before changing over to snow by 3AM.
Significant snowfall is expected between 7AM and 1 PM Thursday.
Accumulation of approximately 6 to 8 inches is anticipated. Locally higher amounts are possible.
Snow tapers off Thursday afternoon, with dry conditions expected for the remainder of the week.
Due to low temperatures, some snow may remain on the ground into the weekend.
