Since when do Presidents act as promoters of their family's businesses?

Since when do Presidents malign specific businesses for personal reasons? When did that crap start?

Presidents normally do not get involved in business promotions or advertising. It's a conflict of interest and smacks of corruption. It's OK if Ivanka Trump has a line of fashion products. Nothing wrong with that, but it's not the President's business to promote it or suggest that a retailer is wrong for not carrying that line.

It's unethical to do such things. Highly unethical. Donald Trump seems to have a tin ear when it comes to ethics.

You'd think anyone who ran for office would understand that they must be neutral when it comes to specific businesses, and even more so when it's the business of a family member. You'd think so, anyway.

But not Trump. He has no sense of ethics whatever, it seems. I've certainly seen no evidence of an ethical compass from the man, anyhow.

to the challenge. I mean, he ran for the job. Maybe he didn't understand what the job entails. I don't know. But, he's making a mess of it. As the Italian immigrant grandfather of a friend of mine always said when things went awry:

"Everything come-a like soup. All mixed up."

With his daughter not being able to grift off his being POTUS, right after it was made public that his wife had sued for libel because of probably not being able to grift off his being POTUS; he is probably hating it right now.

How does Melania think she's going to make a $1.5mil profit off of being FLOTUS?

This family is disgusting. I didn't think anyone could top the Palin clan. They were like the Wasilla hillbillies on their way to Beverly hills. Now we've got this uncouth, ignorant, entitled klan occupying the white house.

The rules don't apply to this guy.

At least that's what the R's have determined.

Heck, his wife is suing because she might not parlay her role as FL into millions in merchandise.

I don't believe that any of them even know what ethics are.

Just think how many were indicted in the Reagan years. These people make every one of them look like slackers in terms of corruption.

use their position to promote their own personal businesses, and are completely open about it, acting like it's completely normal?

I actually thought that sort of thing was illegal.

offices and are part of state constitutions and laws. No Federal officeholder can be recalled by the voters. House members and Senators can only be removed by their respective houses of Congress. Presidents, Vice Presidents and Judges, along with Cabinet Members, can only be removed through impeachment proceedings. That's how it works.

The people can vote for someone else at the next election the official has to stand for, though. That's the check and balance measure we have as voters, and the only one for federal offices.

that this brought back the fuzzy memory of when Bush I said he did not like broccoli. It was a thing! Broccoli farmers brought a truck load of broccoli farmers to the WH and Barbara Bush had to talk about how much she liked broccoli.
Because that is not a thing the president is supposed to do. They are supposed to at least look like they are president of ALL Americans. They aren't supposed to play favorites.

Now, some might bring up Carter's brother, Billy, who had his own beer brand. But in doing that, Carter was opening up the home brewing/craft beer businesses. So it benefited other people.

The way tRump is doing it is clearly a smack in the face for an American business (Nordstrom) and nepotism of the highest level.

It is becoming very obvious he wanted this job for himself and his family and friends ONLY!
