Either the GOP leaders don't notice Bannon/Trump is trying to convert the U.S. into a dictatorship,

Or they're actually OK with that happening.

This is the true "elephant in the room."

These people - the majority in the House and Senate - they can stop this in its tracks...and they're not. (at least no signs yet)

Are they waiting - and then they'll act? Or are they going to let it happen - and just fall in line behind a 21st century Hitler with nuclear weapons?

If they do - it's really astonishing. As bad as I have believed them to be - I still wouldn't believe they could be this bad.

The whole world can see what's occurring here - all the parallels with the formation of other totalitarian regimes.

And they can't really see it? Are they now so blinded by partisanship that they can't?

Loyalty to Party over Nation - even to this degree? Even over the survival of the Planet? WTF??

You know that not even any of them can feel secure with Trump having the nuclear codes!

The horror. The horror.

The resistance - the protests - they need to be directed at the GOP leadership - relentlessly - for they are enabling the Bannon/Trump monster.

So Trump is given a pass. They imagine he's bullshitting, or grandstanding.

Those kinds of beliefs are right up there with "no sane person would kill another person."

Nope, that's not how autocrats operate. They tell you what they plan to do, and then they do it.

They need him as a scapegoat. So until their government, budget and country destroying bills related to the ACA, the environment, voting, taxes and regulations are signed into law, they will keep the ignorant figurehead in office.

HOPEFULLY, anyway. But they can get Pence to do the same dastardly shit - without the insanity baggage. (and Putin love). I wish they'd take him down now - or start making overtures about it. Who wants to wait to see what this lunatic is really capable of?

He basically said "Don't count on it". Because Trump is taking them down the toilet with him. They may not be able to climb out. He gave the example of McConnell and his wife's appointment. Now McConnell is in bed with Trump. Because of this appointmenr, Trump has more power over McConnell.

These are not folks who read or study history. Dictators often turn on those who supported their rise to power. They are seen as competition. Better to destroy them and further cower any opposition.

enforces their beliefs on the country.

Republican voters feel safer in a world where people know their place (that they determine), know their job/role, know to behave a certain way (that they determine) - where no one ever rocks the boat and causes them discomfort by thinking differently.

They need that order, that forced conformity, to feel good about themselves and to feel safe.
