What is the low down on General Mattis?

I thought he had bipartisan support.

Updated for clarity.

Everyone was in support of his appointment, and in the first failed mission he has an honorable mention in the decision-making process. Right-wingers are happy to pin the failure on Mattis and the Pentagon, and are giving Trump a pass. They seem to be comfortable with a no-nothing president making decisions that keep turning up less than desirable results, and are perfectly okay with blaming it on his support staff. If this is going to be a pattern, we are never going to come together as a nation.

He seems like the #1 voice of reason in the midst of a ship of fools and monsters -- at least what I have seen and heard from him.

Failures will be spun as successes until they can't be, and then someone else will get the blame.

Mattis has actual qualifications, but that won't matter when mindless doctrine inevitably leads to operational failure. Mattis is just a prop serving at the pleasure of an erratic president.

He has a weird "rah rah" attitude about him that rubs me the wrong way, in terms of recklessly aggressive. The whole "shooting people is fun" thing was a huge turn off.

And if he was calling the shots on this raid, it seems like my suspicions are warranted.

I don't remember this getting any mention in the confirmation hearings. But then it is all becoming a huge blur of corruption and wretchedness.
