Santorum: Trump Not Tweeting on Quebec Is Like When Obama Didn't Comment on Black-on-White Crime

by Josh Feldman | 3:13 pm, February 9th, 2017

Rick Santorum said on CNN this afternoon that President Trump not tweeting about Quebec is like when President Obama didn’t comment publicly on black-on-white crime.

Trump has been roundly criticized for, while being so outspoken about radical Islamic terrorism, staying silent on the Quebec mosque shooting that left six dead and 19 injured. Kellyanne Conway said earlier this week that Trump simply just doesn’t tweet about everything (though the president has tweeted about Nordstrom and John McCain and a Democratic Senator so far this week). Santorum had this to say in response to that criticism about Trump overlooking Quebec:

It should not be a shock to anybody that presidents — anybody is not gonna tweet out things that don’t necessarily fit with the narrative that the administration is trying to put forward. The previous president — when there were attacks by anybody who shot someone black, the president would be out there with some sort of statement to talk about it. If it was the reverse, you never heard anything. So there is a narrative that the White House tries to drive on issues that they care about.

CNN’s Jim Sciutto pushed back and said Barack Obama was certainly vocal on shootings where the victims were not black, but Santorum clarified his point further:

When there was white-on-black crime, the president was all over it, and when it was a black-on-white crime, that was simply not the case.

2. The Prez Spoke On Every White on Black Shooting?

I don't think so, Ricky. He spoke about those cases that were already making news and the issue was getting too big for a president with a brain and a heart to sit by silently.

Sounds like Ricky is expecting Obama to have commented on every killing in the US, which of course, no president would do.

But, ignoring a mass murder event is a whole lot different than individual events of murder in a country this big. No matter how big the country, a tactical assault on a place of worship that resulted in multiple deaths is a little different, Ricky boy.

What a dolt.

4. I guess Santorum missed this statement after the Baton Rogue shooting

http://heavy.com/news/2016/07/president-obama-reaction-to-baton-rouge-police-shooting-barack-what-did-say-about-deaths-alton-sterling-louisiana-suspect/

I condemn, in the strongest sense of the word, the attack on law enforcement in Baton Rouge. For the second time in two weeks, police officers who put their lives on the line for ours every day were doing their job when they were killed in a cowardly and reprehensible assault. These are attacks on public servants, on the rule of law, and on civilized society, and they have to stop.

I’ve offered my full support, and the full support of the federal government, to Governor Edwards, Mayor Holden, the Sheriff’s Office, and the Baton Rouge Police Department. And make no mistake – justice will be done.

We may not yet know the motives for this attack, but I want to be clear: there is no justification for violence against law enforcement. None. These attacks are the work of cowards who speak for no one. They right no wrongs. They advance no causes. The officers in Baton Rouge; the officers in Dallas – they were our fellow Americans, part of our community, part of our country, with people who loved and needed them, and who need us now – all of us – to be at our best.

Today, on the Lord’s day, all of us stand united in prayer with the people of Baton Rouge, with the police officers who’ve been wounded, and with the grieving families of the fallen. May God bless them all.

5. Also Obama commented extensively on the Chicago shootings

and considerable Federal resources have already been expended prior to him leaving office.

“What I’m trying to do is to get a broader conversation about how do we reduce the violence, generally. Part of it is seeing if we can get an assault weapons ban re-introduced, but part of it is also looking at other sources of the violence, because frankly, in my hometown of Chicago there’s an awful lot of violence, and they’re not using AK-47s. They’re using cheap handguns,” Obama said.

As soon as dimwits like Santorum play the "what about" card, you can be sure that the latest fuck-up by President Trump is something serious. The obvious question to ask Santorum would have been, "For example?" It's easy to formulate pleasant-sounding equivalencies, but we're going to need some actual, real-world examples of when President Obama ignored black-on-white crime. What is the white victim equivalent of Dylann Roof's shooting spree or Michael Brown's public execution that President Obama ignored?

10. Here is a white on white shooting of two officers that Obama commented on

http://kwqc.com/2016/11/02/obama-releases-statement-on-des-moines-police-shooting/

Yesterday, two police officers put on their uniforms to serve and protect the communities they loved. And early this morning, they were taken from us in shameful acts of violence.

Sergeant Anthony Beminio and Officer Justin Martin represented our best, most decent instincts as human beings – to serve our neighbors, to put ourselves in harm’s way for someone else. They knew the dangers of their job. They knew the risks. Yet they chose to dedicate themselves to those values anyway. So today, Michelle and I join Americans across our country in expressing our condolences and stand in solidarity with their grieving families, fellow officers, and the communities they served so honorably.

All across the country, our police officers go to work each day not knowing whether they’ll come home at night. Their families live each day with the same fears. So as Americans, we owe them our respect and gratitude for their efforts to safeguard our families and our communities. And so as we once again mourn American police officers lost in the line of duty, we must also renew the call to match that same sense of service, that same devotion within our own lives and our own communities.

Thankfully, that’s the Iowa I know well. That’s what I’ve experienced every time I’ve visited Urbandale and Des Moines – good, big-hearted people who look out for each other and are willing to come together across our differences. That’s the spirit we all must summon now not only to heal, but to honor the service of Sergeant Beminio, Officer Martin, and all the men and women who wear the blue.
