FEAR, FEAR, FEAR, BE AFRAID, BE AFRAID, BE AFRAID, TERRORIST ARE POURING INTO OUR COUNTRY!! I'M "SERIES", BELIEVE ME!!! This shit is all I hear every freakin' day with this "so-called" president, what the hell changed? Duh..Nevermind....
In the last 8 years, you never heard this kind of willfull fear-mongering, and incitement because we had intelligent, competent, responsible adults running our government, not the mentally ill shitshow we have now whipping their base into a frenzy. I'm still waiting for their orchestrated "Reichstag fire" to prove their insane claims. The only thing scaring the shit out of me now, IS this administration.

(365 posts)I actually tried to watch fux news to find out what the kool-aid brigade was being fed...omg! Fear, hate, anger and so on and so on. Best thing are the commercials for the preppers who need to store food for terrorist attacks. I wish I felt some empathy for them...but I don't.

(5,268 posts)Despite the deceitful run-up to invasion of Iraq, incompetence in conduct of the war, the no-bid shoddy contracts in Iraq and the unaccounted for/ misspent billions wasted there, we were told they were keeping us safe from terrorism and we were unpatriotic to question. McCain/Palin tried but failed in exploiting the fear tactic because we were suffering from financial terror of Repubs by then.

(38,958 posts)It also got Reagan elected in the 1980's. That and some serious underhanded activity on the part of the Reagan Campaign and Administration.

(44,129 posts)I don't get it. They have to be told what and who to fear and they never question the motive behind the fear mongering.

(3,208 posts)We have nothing to fear but fear itself.
But fear makes people more obedient and better consumers ("go buy stuff and you'll feel better!!" and stupid. I know when I am afraid I don't think as clearly.
And you are so right! The threat is coming from inside the house (the White House!).

(18,964 posts)With each successive court ruling I fear we draw another step closer to the Trumpian version of the "REICHSTAG FIRE"...
I saw his threat that the courts would be responsible for any act of terrorism that occurred after their ruling as a direct threat that there would/will be a false flag operation to consolidate Trump's power.
I may be "awfulizing" the situation but then, I didn't believe Trump would ever be elected either....

(48,955 posts)The RW authoritarian followers have the same values as liberals and progressives, but they overlay that with an extra set of values that emotionally push out reason and logic.
Right-wing authoritarians want society and social interactions structured in ways that increase uniformity and minimize diversity. In order to achieve that, they tend to be in favour of social control, coercion, and the use of group authority to place constraints on the behaviours of people such as political dissidents and ethnic minorities. These constraints might include restrictions on immigration, limits on free speech and association and laws regulating moral behaviour. It is the willingness to support or take action that leads to increased social uniformity that makes right-wing authoritarianism more than just a personal distaste for difference. Right-wing authoritarianism is characterized by obedience to authority, moral absolutism, racial and ethnic prejudice, and intolerance and punitiveness towards dissidents and deviants. In parenting, right-wing authoritarians value children's obedience, neatness, and good manners.[1]
Right-wing authoritarianism is defined by three attitudinal and behavioral clusters which correlate together:[14][15]
* Authoritarian submission a high degree of submissiveness to the authorities who are perceived to be established and legitimate in the society in which one lives.
* Authoritarian aggression a general aggressiveness directed against deviants, outgroups, and other people that are perceived to be targets according to established authorities.
* Conventionalism a high degree of adherence to the traditions and social norms that are perceived to be endorsed by society and its established authorities, and a belief that others in one's society should also be required to adhere to these norms.[16]
The terminology of authoritarianism, right-wing authoritarianism, and authoritarian personality tend to be used interchangeably by psychologists, though inclusion of the term "personality" may indicate a psychodynamic interpretation consistent with the original formulation of the theory. -- Wikipedia
