Surrogate cesspool

An automatic stamp of approval is what his surrogates offer when questioned about Trump's behavior or policies. No matter who, what, when, where, or why, the answer is always the same....within a nanosecond....Trump is making America great again. Believe him.

Kellyanne Conway can hawk Ivanka's merchandise, Flynn can cozy up to Putin, Spicer can flat-out lie at his press briefings, and it's all perfectly okay, normal even. White Nationalists can formulate policies, a bigot can run the Department of Justice, a person who hates the EPA and everything it stands for, can run the EPA. That's okay too.

This might seem strange to some, but our country's current situation reminds me of the unpredictable, chaotic, alcoholic family I grew up in, where yesterday's rules weren't tomorrow's rules, where people running things seemed crazy....even dangerous, where acceptable norms were blown up without notice, where chaos reigned and became everyday activity.

This Trump situation isn't one where we can cover our eyes like we might if we see a car wreck or roadkill. This requires some dead-serious resistance and a plan....no, a demand....to move forward
guided by long-accepted principles. I so hope we can do it. I keep thinking about the Germany of long ago and how many people were willing to remain silent.

At least a "swamp" is a biosphere. A cesspool is quite different and a more apt description.
