The First Step To Impeach President Trump Has Just Been Taken (DETAILS)

Donald Trump has been president for less than a month, and a top Democrat is already taking steps that could lead to his impeachment.

On Thursday, The Washington Post reported, that Rep. Jerrold Nadler (D-New York) filed a “resolution of inquiry” into President Trump. A resolution of inquiry is used to force presidents and other members of the executive branch to share records with Congress.

In Nadler’s resolution, he asks Attorney General Jeff Sessions to, within 14 days, provide Congress with “copies of any document, record, memo, correspondence, or other communication of the Department of Justice” that provides information on investigations of Trump and his associates, his foreign business interests, and potential conflicts of interest, including those that would violate the emoluments clause of the Constitution.

There are a few different ways that the Judiciary Committee can respond to Nadler’s resolution. They have 14 legislative days (Congressional workdays) to debate and vote on whether to report the resolution favorably, reject it, or revise it; if the committee does not take actions within the 14 allotted days, Nadler can request that the resolution be discharged so that the entire House can vote on it.

If compromising information about President Trump is revealed as a result of Nadler’s resolution, it could potentially serve as the first step in impeaching Trump, who has already been accused by numerous individuals of violating the Constitution.

In a statement explaining his decision to file the resolution, Nadler, who is the second-ranking Democrat in the House Judiciary Committee, said:

3. That is to be expected, but we should still make them defend him.

trump is an unpopular president. The more cheeto dust we can rub off of the republicans in general the better. The more they have to defend him, the worse their whole Faustian bargain becomes.

Take every opportunity to make repubs side with Trump. Get it on the record. Then hang it around their necks in 2018.

Rattle the tree until shit falls out or they have to spend all their energy clinging to the trunk instead of getting up to mischief.

Dems don't have the numbers. We have to move away from the mentality that we are going to win the fight directly and if we can't we shouldn't bother. We need to focus on keeping pressure on the administration on all fronts all the time. It's something we can do and it's something that works.

We should also be burying his ass in FOIA requests. If he's going to act rashly, unilaterally, untransparently and in disregard of the wishes of the majority of the people then he should be made to answer for what he is doing endlessly and publicly and at maximum cost in staff time, energy and stress.

Eventually he's going to get the message that governance works slowly for a reason. If you can't be assed to craft policy carefully and consult with affected parties and build consensus then your policy is going to be thrown out by the courts and you are going to be discredited. And the American people are going to demand accountability for all the time and money you wasted.

from these publications. I have seen at least four since Trump took office. Everything is the first step toward impeachment. Of course it isn't, but that doesn't stop the publications from lying.

If compromising information about President Trump is revealed as a result of Nadler’s resolution, it could potentially serve as the first step in impeaching Trump, who has already been accused by numerous individuals of violating the Constitution.

If, if, if. There has already been a great deal of compromising information released about Trump, but the GOP isn't acting to impeach him because impeachment is a political act.

There is nothing in Nadler's request that equates with impeachment, but these publications create inflammatory and false headlines for click bait. When I see this stuff on FB, I no longer read it. It may help that website's profits to lie to its readers, but it doesn't help the public. Rather, the website cravenly exploits the public's hopes and fears for profit. Don't feed into their crap.

And it doesn't help when some of our people push it.

13. Cool, but actual impeachment is only for one try. Don't commit to it until it is a sure thing.

Some exploratory stuff like Nadler's resolution doesn't commit anybody to anything major.

But be careful not to attempt impeachment itself unless it will definitely succeed. Democrats are like to get only one attempt.
