... should we continue to play-nice and abide by the rules of respect and decorum? Are we showing weakness by not fighting fire with fire and disrespect with disrespect? Does taking the "high-road" matter any more if so doing leads to defeat after defeat?

(41,915 posts)Nor should they hang out and shake his hand as he enters and exits. Speaking in front of an audience that is unresponsive will make him crazy.
Well, okay, an occasional boo when he brags about doing something egregious might make me smile.

(11,856 posts)They sit quietly and not make a sound, and quickly exit when it's over.
It will infuriate Trump and make him go off script, while the country will see the Republicans adore him.

(10,068 posts)Heckling plays into the Trumpettes' hands. Laughing when he utters a lie would be more appropriate. Afterwards, a Democratic spokesperson should offer a point-by-point fact check.

(46,166 posts)And the Republicans in the chamber would be his built in applause machine. The optics would be awful. Let's face it, we're between a rock and a hard place and have to pick our spots.
I say let the protests say it for us outside the chamber. I believe there will be plenty out there behind the barricades making the will of the people known replete with numerous effigies of the orange one.

(9,670 posts)We are not the monsters that we oppose. We must remain true to our mission and our beliefs.
That being said, I am hopeful that there will be a pervasive and enduring media campaign following the SOU that highlights and destroys all the lies and distortions that inevitably will be advanced by the SCROTUS.

(82,849 posts)You also have to figure that President Trump is going to pause for what he thinks will be boffo applause lines. When nobody cheers, or is too slow on the uptake, Democrats should be prepared to laugh out loud during the pause.
