Al Franken to Dem senators: Call Trump racist to his face for Elizabeth Warren Pocahontas slur

Sen. Al Franken (D-MN) suggested on Sunday that Democratic senators should have stood up to President Donald Trump and accused him of racism when he recently used the racial slur “Pocahontas” to refer to Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA).

In a so-called “listening session” with 10 Democratic senators last week, Trump reportedly got no pushback when he repeatedly called Warren “Pocahontas” while making the point that she had become the face of “your party.”

“I heard this from a couple of my colleagues who were there,
” Franken told CNN’s Jake Tapper on Sunday. “And I — I would have said something.”

“I would have said, ‘Mr. President, with due respect, that’s racist. Please stop doing that. I’m on Indian Affairs (subcommittee). This is completely unacceptable. You really should stop doing this. It doesn’t serve anybody.'”

If the repukes have no problem with him calling Warren Pocahontas, they shouldn't have any trouble with us calling him Hitler. The analogy is much stronger in his case anyway.

News anchors and interviewers, and Democratic office holders, should in the future call Trumpian spokespersons and Trump himself out to their faces when they lie. As an example, I think the next interviewer or anchor who is lied to by Kelly Anne Conway should interrupt her, in mid sentence if necessary, and say something like: "There you go again, Ms Conway; you lie all the time. Are you even capable of telling the truth?" Calling out racism, as Senator Franken suggests, is of the greatest importance; but calling out the lies of Trump and his minions is also very highly important.

I've posted on a NE Patriots message board that has a politics section and a large number of people there call her Fauxahantas there with relish. I don't think that going after Trump on using that would accomplish anything.

I've voted for Warren, I like her, but if she ran for President, I'd be concerned that the right has been too effective vilifying her and the result could be like with Hillary. I think there's a sexist element to the way that has worked for them, and I don't like it, but I'd probably vote for a different Presidential candidate in the primaries because of it.

The GOP is a racist party. Certainly there is some camouflage in the form of the very few GOP non-white politicians, but the party only wins by appealing to racist whites.

And by suppressing non-white votes.

is the democratic leadership, outside Maxine Waters...Independent Bernie Sanders..Sen. Franken, so fearful of the boy potus and his band of racist men and women? 8 years and NO ONE of prominence spoke up for President Obama and the in your face racism he had to endure, no one called out the racist obstructionist pigs on the right. We seem so fucking weak to me. Spineless doesn't even begin to describe what I have felt about our 'leadership' for 8+ years now!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Pochontas is pretty goddamn in your face racism. I quit Uber because of that goddamn CEO...the local group texting me and asking why I stopped driving for the asshole, I told them...wasn't hard at all. We have got to Speak up, RESIST and per Dr. Warren, PERSIST. I am sick of cowardice everywhere...because of these fucking nazis in office now....

Thursday’s meeting was an attempt to foster bipartisan support for Gorsuch, whose confirmation requires 60 votes in the Senate, where Republicans hold 52 seats. Attending were Sens. Joe Manchin, Heidi Heitkamp, Jon Tester, Lamar Alexander, Chris Coons, Shelley Moore Capito, John Cornyn, Chuck Grassley, Joe Donnelly and Michael Bennet.

Mon Feb 13, 2017, 02:25 AM

Media should call him racist for:

having a white supremacist, Bannon, on his staff and sitting in on National Security Council meetings,
appointing someone who is anti-civil rights and voting rights to be Attorney General,
calling Mexicans rapists and murderers
ripping families apart, deporting parents with children here when they are not crimininals
stereotyping all Muslims as terrorists
denigrating black protesters at his rallies
ignoring police violence against black people, while calling for more protection for police
his actions against Native Americans at Standing Rock

to name just a few. Trump needs to be told that these actions are racist on their face; you can't do those things and claim they are not a racist, and if he wants to not be called racist, he needs to undo such actions and stop acting like a KKK grand wizard.
