Manchin really is the worst.

He actually voted FOR Mnuchin.

I kind of (but barely) understood his reasoning for voting for a couple of the other nominees - even though I vehemently disagreed with it -- but there's no excuse on this one. Even the most backwards WV voter can understand that a Goldman guy who made millions in predatory lending isn't the right person for the job.

Pathetic.

Yup. He's an Obama holdover supported by some of the largest Veteran's groups. SaschaHM Feb 2017 #5

The "support Democrats" rule is sometimes used very, very literally here.

We have to support him because not doing so would mean losing that seat to a Republican. I tried to make the argument that we needed to hold certain Democrats accountable, even if there is a risk, but my post was removed very quickly. I interpret this to mean the majority of people here believe it is wrong to challenge an incumbent Democrat in a primary, and wrong even to suggest such a thing. Well, maybe so, but where does that leave us?

I am not fine with wholesale and vague Democrat bashing. There is a lot of room between those two points.

I admit to being entitled. I live in Washington state, with two Democratic Senators--ones that I am usually happy with, although they are by no means perfect, and are of course subject to my own criticism from time to time. My New Democratic rep is Pramila Jayapal, who replaced my beloved Jim McDermott--and she has come out swinging.

Mnuchin is a different story. If Manchin can't clearly explain to the average WV voter why Mnuchin is wrong for their state - and inconsistent with what they voted for in November - it doesn't say much for his communication skills.

Let him serve as an Indy or just out and out join the party he is already voting with anyway.

He's in for the fight of his political life in his re-election campaign in 2018. Republican Congressman Evan Jenkins has a pretty good shot at defeating him.

So, what do you want, a senator who votes 75% on the Democratic side, or one that votes 0% on the Democratic side? Now is not the time to get a super-progressive candidate to take on Manchin in the primary. Be realistic, folks!

We in West Virginia are working on it. Don't undermine our efforts by destroying the only West Virginia Democrat in Congress.

We could have done MUCH better that Lieberman in that state. Manchin is from West Virginia. We can't do better there. A Dem senator in a bright red state is one less seat we need to pick up to get the majority later. It's not like he is the swing vote on any of these appointments.

Lieberman had his own party started and then he won reelection after being primaried. His downfall was endorsing McCain over Obama.
