I'm an old timey sort. I believe in our country.
I do. Above party, I believe most people want what's right. True enough, we hear all sorts of crazy shit from all quarters. True enough, I find the liberal side of the coin a better alternative than the conservative side. But I know there is good stuff and bad stuff coming from all quarters. I believe that more of the stuff that comes from the mainstream American left is good while more of the stuff that comes from the American right is not. The percentages of each are always in motion - sometimes close, sometimes wide.
I believe in our country enough that I volunteered my person and a time in my life to serve in its Navy. I'm proud that I did. I stand a bit straighter because of that.
I am sappy about the country. I believe in Mom and apple pie, too. I also believe we are better for our flow of immigrants. I believe we are better when all our citizens share in the opportunities this country offers. I believe we are diminished - greatly - when this is not the case.
I believe, on this day, with these circumstances, that there will be people who defend our country from within against that which is within. I don't think 45/140 will be tolerated much longer. I believe we will get our country back on track.
