"As a commander, I'm concerned our government be as stable as possible."

https://www.nytimes.com/2017/02/14/us/politics/donald-trump-administration-michael-flynn-resignation.html

General Tony Thomas, head of the military’s Special Operations Command, told a military conference on Tuesday that the upheavals in Washington are rippling through the American military.

“Our government continues to be in unbelievable turmoil,” he said. “I hope they sort it out soon because we’re a nation at war.”

General Thomas insisted Special Operations Forces are “staying focused” despite all the controversy in Washington.

Asked about his comments later, General Thomas said in a brief interview, “As a commander, I’m concerned our government be as stable as possible.”

Well, that's not worrying or anything...

It would be ok if were weren't at war? We're not at war with Russia, yet Russia is the elephant in the room. But, it only matters because we're at war?

And, they're staying focused? These special ops, highly trained people might not be focused because Washington? Then maybe they're not as "special" as advertised. If they are as special as advertised, there is no way they would lose focus because of civilian affairs. Even Westmoreland didn't lose focus in Vietnam. He made major blunder after major blunder, but the protests at home didn't cause that. He was fighting an unwinnable war using battle tactics ill suited for the situation, but the best trained, especially the volunteers, didn't lose focus.

Sorry, but i tend not to trust military high command all that much, and especially when i see comments like this. Sorry but i question his motives.

That's not a thing I want to hear a general, particularly the commander of special operations, saying.

. . .is it possible that this is a political statement from a guy who knows that he's not allowed to make political statements in public? And the only way he gets away with it is be referencing military readiness and security?

We'll find out that we don't really need the President when it comes to running the country.
