Why Republicans do not want an "independent" investigation?

Because they cannot control an "independent" investigation.

If they can keep it in the Senate or the House, they feel they can control the information and blame the Democrats for "playing politics" with a very serious investigation.

They would prefer to not investigate at all but the last thing Mitch McConnell wants is an independent investigation into this matter.

However, this is a very political time. It is impossible to keep politics out of any investigation but if they truly want to get to the bottom of this and find the truth, a team of independent investigators is the only way to go.

He thinks the intelligence agencies are the ones leaking from the White House. They despise trump and would like to bring him down.
