The Trump administration is on the verge of imploding

Top officials are contradicting each other on a regular basis. As one would expect when honorable people are confronted with dishonorable acts, the White House is leaking like a sieve.

Flynn was almost certainly acting under Trump's orders, but even if he was not,Trump knew that that Flynn had spoken the Russian ambassador about sanctions even before Flynn lied to his Vice President who apparently was never in the loop. Yet, it took well over a week for Flynn to be fired for being "disloyal" and therefore untrustworthy. Meanwhile untrustworthy Flynn continued to have access to the nation's most secret and sensitive intelligence. Just yesterday he was working with Trump on the North Korean crisis and sat in on his daily security briefing.

If Trump is indeed in cahoots with Putin, Putin must be asking himself why he ever got involved with such an incompetent fool.

Flynn has "fallen on his sword" and "taken one for the team". Correction, he has taken one for Trump. I am almost certain that it will later be proved that Flynn was talking to the Russians under Trump's orders. So imagine if you were in Flynn's place. You do what your boss told you to do and then he fires you so he can maintain "plausible deniability", at least until the truth comes out and he calls it "fake news". Trump had to trust Flynn immensely not to squeal on him.

They have collaborated through Flynn and others. Trump admitted, almost bragged, early in the campaign. With Flynn gone, the Russians are threatening Trump that they could confirm the stuff, with evidence, that we already know, but Repubs still pretend doesn't matter. Flynn was their boy, and now the level of trust is threatened.

since he's known about his lies since late January.

He didn't want to fire him, just wanted to keep him close because Flynn knows who told him to propose the sanctions-lifting phone calls to the russkies — most likely trump himself.

He only "asked" for his so-called resignation because the news of the phone calls and lies came out and he had to.

In fact, Flynn was in on all briefings, and even was there in Florida sitting in with the Japanese president and trump discussing classified info on North Korea, ridiculously, I must say, in front of other diners.

trump is imo, very nervous right about now as Flynn knows enough to bring down a whole lot of repugs.

Putin wants to destabilize the US as much as possible so he can mess with Ukraine, the Middle East and maybe deploy some other weapon systems.

There are reports of hacking that look like Putin might be sabotaging the #1 center-right candidate in the French Pres. elections to get the #2 far right white nationalist Marine Le Pen into office or close enough to destabilize France.

Wed Feb 15, 2017, 12:43 AM

Putin wants one thing out of Trump - to have the sanctions removed. Trump has got himself in such a bind with the the love affair he and his closest staff members have with Putin and the Russians it will now be very difficult for him remove the sanctions without bring more suspicion on himself than the Republicans in Congress handle with out investigating the shit out of him.

We have already seen this in the address that Nikki Haley gave on her first day in the UN. She said that sanctions will not be removed until Russia leaves the Crimea. That is a pledge that will be hard to back away from.

Putin is used to having everything under his control in Russia. He must view the clown show in Washington which is likely going to keep him from achieving his main objective with disdain and anger. He sees his investment going down the drain.

Tue Feb 14, 2017, 08:04 PM

...didn't know he was being lied to. Flynn and Pence went through a careful charade of a real conversation.

Pence wants to be President. Now, or in 2020. Doesn't matter. He can taste it.

He figured Trump and company had put into place all the henchmen needed to suppress this, cover his ass, move it through without ripple: Sessions as AG, The Security apparatus in Bannon's hands, the Congress fully under Repug control, FOX news. No worries.

So he spoke in code to Flynn and Flynn spoke in code to him. "Nothing to worry about Sir. I did the right thing, Sir" kind of thing. No direct yes or no questions or answers. Yeah--he knew he was setting Flynn up to be the fall guy if anything went wrong. Underlings like Flynn always understand that.

Please, do not give Pence a pass on this. See him for the Machiavellian SOB he is.

I have that uncomfortable little truth chewing away at the back of my brain, too.

I think where we all may be is waiting for some critical mass point to be reached, where something just stinks up the joint too nasty even for the GOP. We're forced to wait and see how much they can swallow or ignore before there's something that just breaks the proverbial camel's back.

I noticed just now on "Hardball" that there are now four GOP senators who are hesitant about one of the nominees still awaiting confirmation. Last we saw were two of them against Betsy DeVos. Maybe for the few who feel more free to stick their necks out, either because they're actually listening to their constituents or because they have consciences that won't allow them to go along with this never-ending shit and nincompoopery anymore.
