General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsDo you have Republican Senators? House Members?
It's time to hold them to account. The Senate has only a small majority of Republicans. Only a few need to be convinced that the Trump/Russian connection needs to be investigated. It is time for people in every state represented in the Senate and House by Republicans to speak loudly and forcefully to their elected officials.
If we can convince just three or four Senators and just 24 Republicans in the House to support such an investigation, it will happen.
So, start your campaign today to convince those who were elected to represent your state to join in an effort to salvage our nation from certain disaster at the hands of the Russian-controlled White House. Remind them of the long-standing distrust of Russians by Republicans over the years. Demand that they answer the question of why they are now abandoning that distrust, in the face of a growing body of evidence.
Just complaining about things gets nothing done. Action does, and action is what is needed now. We don't have to convince every Republican. We need to convince just enough to ensure that a thorough investigation takes place.
Please start today to communicate with any Republicans from your state in the House and Senate. Don't let up until enough agree to get this done
Thank you!

(44 posts)I call them, their VM's are always full. I've emailed them, and Cruz won't even respond. I've written letters and have never received a response, at least not yet. They don't care. Their real constituents are the wealthy, corporate interests and special interests. They are bought and paid for.

(146,254 posts)We only need to convince a few. I know it's difficult to keep pounding on the door of an empty house, but keep trying.
Just a few is all we need. Truly.
I won't stop. I refuse. Everything going on is to important for us to give up. I just tried calling again this morning, no go. There are protests scheduled this weekend, I will be at Cruz's office.

(24,461 posts)He should have voted "no" on the DeVos confirmation, but he defended her every step of the way. Cashed and carried.
Lost cause, that one.

(146,254 posts)might be willing to opt for a thorough investigation. My two are Al Franken and Amy Klobuchar, who will be for that investigation. But they're Democrats. If you live in a state, you have a better idea about your Senators than I can. I still recommend keeping the pressure on even those who are unlikely to switch on this issue.

(24,461 posts)Not even a Klobuchar fan and I would take her 1,000,000 times over Gunner Bobby. Trust me, he's going to see us. Tons of Cleveland Dems protested outside his regional office on the day of the DeVos confirmation. I suspect it's not going to be the last time he sees such physical opposition.
Portman's only lucky he's run against the worst Ohio's Democratic Party could throw up. We really need better candidates here.

(25,123 posts)I'm nervous and am trying to get my talking points, because I have a lot to say.
I'm using David Frum's article https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/03/how-to-build-an-autocracy/513872/ [link:https://www.theatlantic.com/magazine/archive/2017/03/how-to-build-an-autocracy/513872/|
as a blue print. I've highlighted important passages and am trying to memorize them. I want to sound professional and condensed.
The article is very long and well worth the read. Frum is a conservative.
I also want to emphasize that Trump won because he was a populace and although his inexperience was perceived by many voters to be an asset, it is actually a liability when it comes to governing.
I have emailed Cornyn and Cruz about specific Trump issues. I emailed Cornyn regarding the agency black out and received a reply. I immediately emailed both of my senators when Trump shuffled the NSC. For some reason, I only received an "auto-reply". I do not know why I didn't receive a personal reply on that issue.
Anyway, I'm nervous, but I will do it.

(1,849 posts)In my little Repuglican town in NC,we have weekly Tuesday ( against 45) protests with over 200 in attendance. Many groups represented, and individuals And so many making calls. Keep making those calls. Senator Tillis has shown more willingness to work across the isle than Burr or our congressman. Tillis agreed to send a close representative to meet with 5 women from a bi-partisan group. This group spearheaded the weekly protests here. Too bad he couldn't meet with us himself. They are.working on asking him for support of several initiatives and thanking him for whatever they can find. Some plan to Assemble outside to support our cause and thank Sen Tillis (kiss his sas) while others may have provocative or angry signs. I'll be working; may walk over on my lunch time. The group is POW, progressive organized women. They are on Facebook.
So keep calling, keep the messages and requests polite, reasonable, and impassioned.
Indivisible guide is a great resource, for action and for finding groups in your area. Some may be targeting those repugs most likely to listen (ha) but keep calling them all.
