Timeless and Hitler (Spoiler Alert)

On this week's edition of the NBC show Timeless the team is a first directed to travel to Houston, TX in 1962 in order to kill the mother of Garcia Flynn. This caused me to think of asking you all a question. If you could go back in time would you go back to a time before Hitler was born and kill his mother? Would you want to do such a thing to the mother of any horrible historical figure?

At first the team refused to kill Garcia Flynn's mother. After they were threatened with jail time they reluctantly agree to perform the mission. However, once they had traveled to 1962 they knocked out the guy who was supposed to kill Flynn's mother, jumped back to 2016/2017, and later jumped to the 1930s and confronted Al Capone.

Timeless is a time travel show in which a scientist has created a time machine. Garcia Flynn, a former NSA agent, stole the machine in order to travel through time on a quest to destroy Rittenhouse, a secret society that controls America, was behind the creation of the time machine, and killed Garcia Flynn's wife and daughter when he alerted his superiors at NSA that Rittenhouse had financed the creation of the time machine. Lucy Preston, Rufus Carlin, and Wyatt Logan are recruited to use an earlier version of the time machine to follow Flynn through time. There mission is to kill Flynn before he can destroy Rittenhouse and to prevent him from altering history too much. After a number of failed attempts to kill Flynn the team is ordered to kill Flynn's mother.

does Lucy disappear? I'm thinking if Rittenhouse is destroyed - Lucy's father wouldn't exist - therefore Lucy wouldn't have been born. Am I right on this or what am I missing?

I think Lucy's dad could still be born even if Rittenhouse is destroyed. It is possible that if Rittenhouse is destroyed Lucy's parents, even though they are still born, would end up not meeting. So, it seems it could go either way.

Will know before mid May when NBC decides, but the numbers are not good. That is compounded by the fact it is not an NBC owned show and they may want to keep their own shows, especially with poor numbers for Timeless. I hope it stays for at least another full season.

I firmly believe that removal of one evil does not deny or prevent another, sometimes greater evil from occupying that space. We reach the height of human arrogance when we pretend to posses knowledge absolute enough to account for all consequences in anything other than mathematics... and often, not even then.

Would Hitler's early demise prevent (regardless of directly or indirectly) a greater good from happening, e.g., Jack Kilby's first genesis of the idea for the microchip happened when he was watching Army Air Corp flight training... no Hitler, no war, no flight training, no genesis, no micro-chip which has been used in medical applications which saved millions of lives more than lost in Holocaust (and shaddup Bob Noyce fanboys!!!).
