Part of Obama White House will endure: Michelle's vegetable garden

It was less than a year ago that Michelle Obama referred to it as "her baby."

She wasn't talking about her youngest daughter, Sasha, or the Obama's pet dog Bo, but something undoubtedly dear to her during her time at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue: the White House vegetable garden.

...........................

Throughout that fight, health advocates said, the garden was a physical reminder of Obama's message.

"The vegetables wind up in dinners for the first family," Zak noted. "Almost 500 pounds of them have been shipped to homeless shelters. In 2010, they ripened into Obama's "Let's Move!" campaign, for which the first lady danced with Elmo and Jimmy Fallon in order to get kids off the couch and to the crisper. She has also nudged corporations to trim salt, sugar and fat from food products."

The garden — located on the corner of the South Lawn — more than doubled in area during the Obama presidency. The garden also includes an apiary and a pollinator garden for bees and other insects. A spokesman for Hillary Clinton told The Post that she intended to keep the garden if she were elected president, but Trump had not signaled whether the garden would survive until last week.

Somehow I can't see Melodrama tending to it, though, especially not in six-inch heels and all her makeup.

http://www.politico.com/story/2016/10/michelle-obama-garden-changes-white-house-229204

First lady Michelle Obama is making sure that whoever inhabits the White House next doesn’t rip out her iconic vegetable garden — at least not without a big fuss.

On Wednesday afternoon, Obama unveiled a much bigger version of the garden, which uses cement, stone and steel to make it a more permanent fixture on the South Lawn. The updates are seen not just as preserving Obama’s garden — recognized globally as a symbol of local food — but also as a way to dissuade, say, a President Donald Trump from scrapping it the way Ronald Reagan tore out Jimmy Carter's solar panels after he moved into the White House.

Those two always think long term. One of the things I love most about them.

and a shovel bucket full of topsoil + sod can't cover up. I seriously doubt they would keep that there. Drumpf thrives on "fuss" and it would make perfect red meat to his deplorables.

but it will take a backhoe to do it. Where before just a couple of maintenance guys could have quietly fazed it out.

it would have been a perfect opportunity to have all his kin around the WH and out on that lawn as a welcoming gesture to the nation. But this billionaire family only represents "Americans" (deplorables) in (fake) "words" rather than deeds. And his disdain for this location is obvious given he retreats to Florida weekly and his wife is permanently staying in NYC. Totally dysfunctional for the traditional role of the President.

I can't even imagine what is going to happen with the annual Easter Egg Roll if it actually happens. And if it does I expect he stands there whining about the "'illegals' committing voter fraud because they were 'bused in' to vote for Hillary", while Ivanka and Tiffany herd the children in a series of photo-ops and Melania is completely MIA. Wonder how many parents would even want their children there as it is? They would have to pull them from Drumpf Country and pay for their travel there.

People forget that Drumpf changes his mind by the hour.

I expect the garden will be sodded over and probably replaced by some tacky statue and/or fountain with the Drumpf name etched on it. And the solar panels will likely be history too. Fortunately the Obamas took the swingset (that they actually bought) and donated it to a local D.C. shelter.
