They don't trust him because:
He's Episcopalian (pro Gay Marriage, Wobbly on Abortion)
He's from Colorado - (Liberal, environmental, pot state)
They didn't like his comments on Trumps "so-called judge" remarks.

(6,278 posts)I guess this shows that someone with money to burn wants to get Sessons, Gorsuch, etc. in rather badly. Which should cause anyone to reflect on why, regardless of party affiliation.
Are there any limits on this, given that there's no actual election here (so presumably any still-surviving election finance laws do not apply)?

The rightwing wants him on that bench, and will spend millions to buy the silence of the "news" channels.

Judicial Crisis Network Launches $10 Million Campaign to Preserve Justice Scalias Legacy, Support President-Elect Trump Nominee

Multi-Million Dollar Campaign Targets Vulnerable Democrat Senators

ALEXANDRIA, Va. The Judicial Crisis Network (JCN) today announced plans for a national campaign to confirm President Trumps nominee to the Supreme Court. Coming off of its historic Let the People Decide victory in the Garland nomination battle, JCN will engage a comprehensive campaign of paid advertising, earned media, research, grassroots activity, and a coalition enterprise, all adding up to the most robust operation in the history of confirmation battles. JCN and its allies will focus on states where Senate Democrats are vulnerable in 2018, particularly those where Trump won by large margins. JCN spent more than $7 million in its Let the People Decide effort, and it expects to spend at least $10 million to confirm the next justice.
We are preparing to launch the most robust campaign for a Supreme Court nominee in history and we will force vulnerable Senators up for re-election in 2018 like Joe Donnelly and Claire McCaskill to decide between keeping their Senate seats or following Chuck Schumers liberal, obstructionist agenda, said Carrie Severino, Chief Counsel and Policy Director of the Judicial Crisis Network.
Any vulnerable Senator who signs up for Schumers obstructionist strategy will pay a heavy price in 2018. Exit polls showed that over one fifth of voters said the Supreme Court was a primary reason for their vote and of that large percentage of Americans, Trump won those voters by a resounding 57-40 margin. And he won some of those states by overwhelming margins. The President-elect clearly has a mandate when it comes to the Supreme Court and this effort will ensure that the will of the people prevails, Severino continued.

Proud Liberal Dem
(24,406 posts)First off, the people decided- in 2012- that President Obama should serve another 4 years in office and make appointments. Republicans denied him that right by establishing a new precedent agreed to by nobody but themselves, despite having plenty of time to hold hearings and a confirmation vote. If they had held hearings and then voted him down, I would have been upset but at least it would have satisfied due process. The way things worked out was one of the most anti-democratic, obstructionist things that I've witnessed politically. I expected Trump to nominate somebody like Gorsuch and would normally respect his prerogative to do so but the way he got to be able to immediately make an appointment for a seat that should have been President Obama's to fill is outrageous and unfair and I have no wish for Democrats to collude with Republicans to fill that seat and if Republicans want him they should have to do it w/o Democrats
BeckyDem
(8,361 posts)Gorsuch should not get confirmed with any help from any Democrats. When you look at the long term politics of the situation, when he writes in favor of terrible rulings, and he will, we'll be attached to them. I don't want to see that happen.
