An Illegitimate Presidency

An Illegitimate Presidency
Robert Kuttner
February 15, 2017

Eventually, the full truth will come out, and we will be rid of Trump.

The latest news about ongoing contacts between senior Trump campaign officials and Russian intelligence during the campaign makes clear what was hidden in plain view: Trump and the Russians colluded to tip the election to Trump; and in return, Trump offered a much more docile set of U.S. policies towards Putin.

As The New York Times reported, based on extensive interviews with former senior U.S. intelligence officials:

The intercepts alarmed American intelligence and law enforcement agencies, in part because of the amount of contact that was occurring while Mr. Trump was speaking glowingly about the Russian president, Vladimir V. Putin. At one point last summer, Mr. Trump said at a campaign event that he hoped Russian intelligence services had stolen Hillary Clinton’s emails and would make them public.

So we now have something entirely unprecedented in American history—a coup d’état, perpetrated not just by a foreign power, but by America’s principal geopolitical adversary and threat, with the collusion of the new president.

That means that the election was illegitimate, and that the entire Trump presidency is illegitimate. And so, therefore, are every one of its actions
: The appointment of a far-right cabinet. Policies to overturn regulations that protect ordinary Americans, from health, to labor, to the environment, to financial safeguards. All of Trump’s court appointees will be illegitimate, too.

You want to talk about electoral fraud? It doesn’t get more fraudulent than this.

Hopefully we'll find more more solid relief in November, 2020.

Instead of dripping it might become a dump like the pentagon papers. Boom, published handcuffed and tried. There must still be some patriots because they are leaking. We need to start calling rebugs traitors, worse than watergate, handcuff them and lock them up.

Now what are we going to do about it?

It's great to see the truth come to light so we can see the enemy clearly. It's great to have their asses against the wall but now what?

Trump is a dancing clown drawing attention away from the real forces at work.
We have few choices all of which are utterly remote. Remove Trump? so what, remove his cabinet? So what. Remove Pense, Ryan... unless we trash the last election and have a new one we're just running in circles. But who's going to call that election? Who's going to see that it's fair? Not the executive... they would be the new GOP goats taking the old ones place. Not our GOP congress or senate. The SCOTUS can't do it on their own. There's no constitutional way out of this.
What's left is a military or intelligence take over outside of law and we know how those turn out.
So, just what are we going to do to stop this long planned fascist overthrow of our democracy? This anschlus?
I have no answer.

Here's the irony of these revelations: They serve to justify the invasive and unconstitutional surveillance practiced by the deep state on the population. Such surveillance has made this evidence possible. I'm still letting that sink in and hope everyone else does too.

It's not just the Trump regime, it's also the Republican Party leaders who colluded to win so they could enact their extremist agenda. This is widespread treason of the highest order.
