"Can you say anything to give me hope?"

My wife and I went out to dinner with a couple of old friends last night and Trump was a big part of the conversation over dinner. Not all, but a big part.

As we were ready to leave, she asked, "Can you say anything to give me hope?"

I told her that we should look at all the people marching, such as the Woman's March, and that we might have a chance to take back the House in 2018?

That's all I had for her.

Later, I thought about it. I could have said that every day Donald Trump stays in office, the Republican Party will grow weaker.

They are an über version of the nonsensical rightwing propaganda machine and are being exposed as such.

I have heard members of the Green party express that thought, mostly to cover up the fact that in the year 2000, they helped Bush get in. No amount of advancement is worth collateral damage. However, if I do have to minus Silver I'll even go further, and say that some moderate Democrats, well not being as bad as Mr. Trump, would also tried to pass measures meant to roll back the FDR deal. The one hope is that the sheer amount of disgust that Trump inspires will make sure that in the next elections people get out and vote. Then again, I thought after George Bush had brought this country to near disaster, that would've been "rock-bottom." On the other hand, Trump is a hell of a lot louder and sloppier than even George Bush was.

And yes, this next point is nasty but true; couple not just need to inspire hatred and distrust of the right, but there were many in the center of this party who frankly were just riding a gravy train, knowing that they could collaborate at well for Republicans and still getting canned for magic spell "who else are you going to vote for?" I know folks like the senator from West Virginia are still operating on this premise, and many others are writing this gravy train. But frankly, there will be many who ensure that the pendulum does not just settle in the center, or any number of big money donors can keep things aligned to the right, no, after eating the equivalent of the same meal every day for 30 years, people want something a little more spicy, a little less bland, and a little less fattening. I am not saying that the Democrats are going to become the Green party, especially since Jill Stein has turned that party into a glorified con job. What I am saying is that the Democrats will need to tolerate and yes listen to the voices that say that we cannot keep giving Wall Street everything they want and expect them not to be themselves. It's like we give drunks a fifth of Jack Daniels and then wonder why they get drunk and beat us.

Any major terrorist attacks during Obama's terms?
(Orlando & San Bernardino home grown and infused with personal problems)
Any major terrorist killed?

Any economic downturns during Obama's terms? Bush had two.
Any during Bill Clinton's terms?
How about economic recovery and growth?

Any US wars started during Obama's terms?
Bill Clinton's terms?

But emails! And the Republicons were terrorized by the blue dress.

By evening it was not giving me such the optimism.

Right now, in all honesty, the only thing I am really feeling hopeful for is the eclipse that will be happening this summer! I am thinking that is something that this "president" and his hateful, empty soul-ed administration can't f**k up!!!

While conversation is good and there is much to talk about with all things Trump, it also can consume an evening and ruin a fun time with friends or family. Not saying we ignore the disaster taking place, but spend fun time having fun.

if the republicans keep making voting less democratic, we may never vote dems back in. There is a bill (don't know the number) that is for dismantling the Federal election oversight. They want to give it back to all the states. So, these illegal and hackable voting machines will stay and grow. More voter ID laws, less polling location access on and on it goes. Not to mention gerrymandering.

It's all about being ABLE to vote dems into office or they keep the entire Country red.
