I wonder how much homophobia has to do with the Republican embrace of Putin.

Putin is a notorious homophobe, and LGBT people in Russia suffer incredible oppression, much of it officially sanctioned.

I wonder if this isn't a big part of why Republicans like Pence are so enamored with a former KGB chief and blood drenched authoritarian. They would love the opportunity to turn back the clock on gay rights here in the US, and admire the way Putin and Co. have opposed anything resembling equal rights for people who are LGBT in Russia.

I'm just wondering if anyone thinks this might be the case.
