Then they're not quite as stupid as they usually seem to be.
Time for them to do something about this disaster they've enabled.

(328 posts)Right now there is still a sizable chunk of the electorate that doesn't pay much attention (or watches Fox exclusively) and still thinks Trump is just fine. Some of these folks seem to admire him to the point of violence, even. And they would be very angry with any of their elected reps who try to curtail him and certainly not vote for them the next time around.
If it was clear that Trumps popular support was eroding rapidly, Republican reps would suddenly find the courage to act. I'm sure they would much rather have Pence. And at this point, I would too.

(2,165 posts)On FB, I'm seeing posts like "I don't usually pay attention to politics, but..."
This is great. Even seeing "resistance" parties popping up (by these people).
My republican congressman is taking a beating on FB. A few months ago, all his posts were pats on the back, but not anymore. He's definitely being called out.

(1,427 posts)they will utilize Article 4 of the 25th Amendment. Trump will develop an illness, probably a heart condition. Pence, McConnell and Ryan will set the wheels in motion. Pence becomes Pres., names Ryan as VP.

(1,128 posts)They have been in DC long before Trump got there and plan on being there long AFTER Trump leaves, they just want him to be the fall guy for them. They are even smart enough to realize that implementing their agenda will have disastrous consequences for the country; they are salivating at the prospect of blaming everything on Trump and then being the "saviors" who will get rid of him

(40,416 posts)Here:
Turning and turning in the widening gyre
The falcon cannot hear the falconer;
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
The best lack all conviction, while the worst
Are full of passionate intensity.
Surely some revelation is at hand;
Surely the Second Coming is at hand.
The Second Coming! Hardly are those words out
When a vast image out of Spiritus Mundi
Troubles my sight: a waste of desert sand;
A shape with lion body and the head of a man,
A gaze blank and pitiless as the sun,
Is moving its slow thighs, while all about it
Wind shadows of the indignant desert birds.
The darkness drops again but now I know
That twenty centuries of stony sleep
Were vexed to nightmare by a rocking cradle,
And what rough beast, its hour come round at last,
Slouches towards Bethlehem to be born?
Yeats was correct. I see nothing to celebrate here.

(901 posts)hurt them in 2018 if they keep sticking by the fool. I also think that more and more of Trump's base are growing concerned as his poll numbers are still sliding and there seems to be less enthusiasm. It's a one-way street down because Trump appears to be buckling under the pressure and his administration are bungling and not cohesive. Maybe Trump will eventually be happy to be forced out? Then he can hang out at "the winter White House" and whine about how everyone was so mean to him.

Pence steps in, and names a rightwing hispanic woman as his veep.. (they would find one somewhere)..
Then he actually gets a Trojan horse of an immigration bill passed, that can be talked up as acceptable to many , rebrands Obamacare (watered down) and appoints some black people to his cabinet, and they will rule everything for the next three cycles..
etherealtruth
(22,165 posts).... In the sense that I do beleive they (almost) all know he is unhinged and stupid.
45 has some bizarre fan base ... they will wait until they have to get rid of the narcissist buffoon (most likely when his fan base turns against him).
I am not arguing whether it is "smart" or stupid to leave this nutjob in office ... I am arguing the point that I believe they (almost) all know he is unhinged, ignorant, incompetent and a narcissist.

I've got to admit, at times I've found the current occupant of the White House amusing, in a sad sort of way. Made me wish I was a political cartoonist. But it's not funny anymore.
If the Republicans are half as patriotic as they claim to be, they will step up and remove this menace from office.

(48,955 posts)If they take tRump down, then Trump's base of 25-30%, especially the 15% truly deplorable will primary them in 2018 and 2020 and stay home in droves.
If they don't take tRump down, then the other half of the Republicans will either stay home in droves or vote third party or vote Democratic.
I have no sympathy for the Representatives, Senators, or Republiconned voters. They made their bargain early in 2016 and stuck to it through so many obvious warnings. What is happening now was predictable and was predicted.

(5,953 posts)How about his performance for the last year???
But their goal has always been obvious. They want him to rubber stamp their legislation as fast as they can, and appoint a wingnut SCOTUS justice as quickly as possible SO THEY CAN IMPEACH HIM, and put Pence in his place. They were just hoping he wouldn't do too much damage before they could do that. But, judging by the way things are going, they might have to move their impeachment plans up by a year or so.
