General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsCan we not put an end to all of this in days if we can organize a true general strike?
The people in charge of our institutions seem prepared to drag this out for months, if not years. There are so many more of us than them, though. We have more power than they do if we harness it effectively. Why is there not more of an interest in taking this into our own hands and organizing a sort of women's march on steroids. If we can get 3 million people out marching the day after the inauguration, surely we can at least double, ideally triple or more, that now. The powers that be will have to answer to us if every American who wants this fool gone occupies the streets and refuses to purchase anything, not just for a Saturday, but for days. They can't ignore tens of millions of people disrupting daily life and the economy.

The Day without Immigrants was counted as a success, closing chain restaurants all over the country.
We'll see what the Women's Strike in March does, also.
I think a lot of people out there are in an uncooperative mood, but a general strike is a very big deal. You don't want one that only inconveniences people in blue states, while red states pursue bidness as usual. You want a broader base of support than we have right now and without those angry white males on board, forget it.

(8,197 posts)Wasn't MUCH bigger. I'd have liked to see damn near everything closed. People do not realize that from great grandparents to teens, this country is built by immigrants. Almost all of came from SOMEWHERE. I'm sick of his foul mouth. Sick of his racist cabinet and staff. Sick of the ridiculous republicans who voted for him. It's just ridiculous.

(4,533 posts)Why would Trump care about a general strike? And why would Republican legislators risk a primary challenge just for the good of the country? These people put themselves ahead of the good of the nation. That should be obvious by now.
And losing campaign funds from pro-business donors won't cause those in safe districts to lose their jobs. But primary challenges fueled by angry pro-Trump Republican voters would lead to Republican politicians losing their jobs.

(8,572 posts)Many would get fired. People need that day's pay, and bills don't take a day off. IMO, one of the reasons the Women's March was so wildly successful was because it was on a weekend.
