Kansas City congressman Emanuel Cleaver says he was shut out when he tried to attend a meeting with federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials.

Cleaver says he and members of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus were set to attend the meeting to discuss last weeks raids by ICE agents. But they were not allowed to stay, the 5th District Democrat told KMBZ.

"I don't want to believe that the president is trying to create a frightening environment, but seems to be what's happening," Cleaver said. "I have never, in 12 years in congress, been put out of a meeting."

Cleaver claims he was told he and other representatives needed to leave because the meeting had to be bipartisan.
