Last night, I was with the author of the "TRUMP ACT"

NYS Senator Brad Hoylman has introduced the "Tax Returns Uniformly Made Public" Act, requiring any Presidential candidate appearing on the NY ballot to make three prior years of tax returns public. Cute idea; but the Republican Senate will never pass it.

New York State Senate

Republican (31)
Independent Democratic (8)
Caucusing Democrat (1)
Democratic (23)

How is Independent Democrat different from Democrat?

State Assembly is overwhelming Democratic

Democratic (106)
Independence (1)
Republican (43)

So how did the Senate end up Republican?

8 members of the elected Democratic Senators (25%) have created an Independent Democratic Caucus, which votes with the Republicans on organization. It would be easy to say that these aren't "real" Democrats; they are. It's more a lack of confidence in the Democratic leadership team, and the ineffectiveness of the State Party (which really doesn't exist) at enforcing Party discipline.
