The Senate narrowly confirmed Scott Pruitt as the new Environmental Protection Agency chief on Friday, despite Democrats calls to delay the vote until the release of a new trove of documents detailing the Oklahoma attorney generals relationship with oil and gas companies.
The 52-46 vote divided the Senate along party lines, with just two Democrats ― Sens. Joe Manchin (W.V.) and Heidi Heitkamp (N.D.), who are up for re-election in states with big fossil fuel industries ― voting to confirm Pruitt. Sens. John McCain (R-Ariz.) and Joe Donnelly (D-Ind.) did not vote.
Pruitt won the Senates approval the day after Judge Aletia Haynes Timmons of the District Court of Oklahoma County ordered his office to turn over more than 2,500 emails and other documents by Tuesday.
The watchdog group Center for Media and Democracy, represented by lawyers from the American Civil Liberties Union, filed a lawsuit against Pruitt earlier this month, alleging his office had violated Oklahomas open records law.

(65,160 posts)Be even too much for those Democrats. But no! By voting for Pruitt, they are basically saying they do not care at all about the environment. The Repukes of course made it happen, but they should not have any of our help

(16,245 posts)Not to mention that these folks will NEVER be trustworthy with a vote. I mean, why suck up to the piece of shit in the White House? he's going down sooner or later and so is anyone tied to him, including (hopefully) these DINOS.

(24,135 posts)I attended an EPA hearing on fracking during Bush years and whoa ... talk about eyeopening experience of two completely different groups. Us liberals who were unprepared and the energy folks totally prepared and loud.
90% of the liberal types got up and left out of disgust - I hung in there and was the last person to speak but I knew fracking was here to stay. It has grown by leaps/bounds in CO and Ft. Collins was overruled by courts on their fracking ban vote. Boulder is up next and I suspect since Ft. Collins failed, Boulder will too.

(2 posts)Heitkamp is following the footsteps of Blanche Lincoln, Mary Landrieu, Mark Pryor, Evan Bayh, Jon Tester, Ben Nelson...They went rogue on Obama and still lost their seats.
What's the point in acting republican-lite anyway? Conservative voters will always pick a real one over a turncoat democrat. Let's hope she gets primaried.
