7. I thought only people who were convicted felons, people like that were deported.

an enormous federal police apparatus with the Nazi-like name of The Department of Homeland Security.

It's like, once it was created with that title, its descent into an abusive authoritarian agency was a self-fulfilling certainty.

Time to start doing historical research on when the German citizens who fled their country before the war knew exactly when to get out.
