February 17, 2017
he U.S. Marshals Service says they are now providing security for Education Secretary Betsy DeVos, after a handful of protesters blocked her from entering a Washington middle school.
The move is unusual for the Education Department, which typically has a team of civil servants guarding the secretary, and for the marshals, law enforcement officers who are generally responsible for protecting federal judges, transporting prisoners, investigating fugitives and protecting witnesses.
The last Cabinet member protected by marshals was a director of the Office of National Drug Policy, according to Lynzey Donahue, a spokeswoman for the U.S. Marshals Service. That office ceased to be a Cabinet-level position in 2009.
Donahue said that for security reasons, she could not provide any information about the number of marshals assigned to DeVos, nor whether they are providing round-the-clock protection. It is unclear how long the arrangement will last.

Privileged, protected rich lady. Probably has never heard anyone call her a bad name. Probably never got into it with a brother or sister or at school. Scared because she didn't get her way.

(46,166 posts)I mean - what mission in life regarding American education is worth risking your life? If she's being threatened and harassed then it's time to quit and go enjoy her wealthy life.
For pity sakes. Working for Trump sounds more like a nightmare than a job.
You're right, leftsreet. This really is funny stuff. I find chuckles bubbling up every time I think of her getting that dose of angry parents.

(54,354 posts)An Education Secretary who acts like her main job is to make sure students get a lousy education unless their parents are rich or they live in a ritzy neighborhood should require protection from school students. Of course, she should also not be Education Secretary in the first place, but this is now Trumpistan, so the rules will be different for a while.
