(25,222 posts)Remove 45Pee's crazy appointments after 45Pee has upturned everything and fulfilled the Repugs dreams and replace them with saner, seasoned people.
Blame everything on 45Pee and say give us Repugs time in the form of Pence - to make things right.

(3,557 posts)American people seem to have a very short term memory when it comes to politics. If pence gets sworn in sooner rather than later and is able to at least pull off a semblance of competency then the republicans might not fare all that poorly in 2018 or 2020. I believe they are intentionally keeping pence as clean as they can for that reason.
This might sound aweful, but I hope trump can either fizzle out very quickly and take pence and other top repubs with him, or hold on until after the 2018 elections and keep himself so busy with his current self inflicted crisises that he gets absolutely nothing done and sets the stage for a legitimate progressive groundswell.
I don't wish an economic crisis on our nation, but I've read many times in the last year that whoever the president is between 2016 and 2024 that an economic downturn is to be expected. I just hope it doesn't happen with a democrat as president. That could further stall what I believe to be a future (imminent) rogressive movement.
One can at least hope...

(2,560 posts)I understand that a President can serve at most two 4-year terms. But what happens when a President is "appointed" due to external events. Pence would be eligible to seek re-election in 2020, but would he also be eligible in 2024?
My avatar would strongly suggest I'm not American. I don't claim to be familiar with all the nuances of your electoral system.

(15,265 posts)So if a VP comes into office less than halfway through the president's full term, the VP could only serve the balance of that term plus one more. If VP comes into office with less than 2 yrs left on the president's term, VP can serve out that and be able to run for president and serve 2 full terms if elected/re-elected.

(25,222 posts)10 years? I wouldn't put it past them to think this out to make that happen.

(42,560 posts)After Nixon resigned, every member of the Nixon cabinet remained in office under Ford for at least six months. A couple (Kissinger, Simon) stayed on throughout Ford's presidency. A few stayed over a year. And a few left the cabinet position they had to take a different cabinet position or high level position in the Ford administration. In other words, there was no major shakeup in the cabinet.
Similar, after JFK's assassination, four of his cabinet members stayed on as members of LBJ's cabinet, not only until the 1964 election, but for the entirety of LBJ's second term. Every other member of JFK's cabinet was kept on until after the 1964 election (i.e., for more than a year).
