Attacks on science are attacks on the public, said Emily Southard, campaign director of ClimateTruth.org and one of the rallys organizers. Its our clean air and water and climate.
.......
The rally will run from noon to 1:30 p.m., according to organizers, and will be livestreamed on the ClimateTruth.org Facebook page. It coincides with a gathering of thousands of scientists in Boston for the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting. Many of the scientists are expected to show up in their lab coats, according to organizers.
By Saturday afternoon, 1,600 people said on the Facebook event site that they planned to attend and nearly 8,000 indicated they were interested.
.........
Astrid Caldas, a climate scientist with the Climate & Energy program at the Union of Concerned Scientists who is slated to speak at the rally said science needs defenders, now more than ever. Everyone benefits from science, she said -- it influences our health, our daily lives, where we live, what we eat.
I hope to make the point that scientific facts are not replaceable, Caldas said in a telephone interview Saturday. Scientific facts are scientific facts, they are not alternative facts.
