I've spoken of the shining city all my political life, but I don't know if I ever quite communicated what I saw when I said it. But in my mind it was a tall, proud city built on rocks stronger than oceans, windswept, God-blessed, and teeming with people of all kinds living in harmony and peace; a city with free ports that hummed with commerce and creativity. And if there had to be city walls, the walls had doors and the doors were open to anyone with the will and the heart to get here. That's how I saw it, and see it still.

Couldn't stand him politically - but I actually briefly sort of met him once and his demeanor at that moment was disarmingly kind - and since the circumstances were such that it was inappropriate to confront him about his policies (he had just finished his 2nd term) I just returned his smile and left it alone. I would scream and curse at Trump.

BTW, I went with my gf to get her Green Card renewed. At the immigration office are posters by our presidents welcoming immigrants. They are all majestic in their own way.

"fuck you" to the world, "we're better than you." You can try to get in, but we're gonna block you out to the best of our ability.
