by Josh Feldman | 12:20 pm, February 19th, 2017
Glenn Greenwald said on CNNs Reliable Sources this morning that Democrats praising the Trump administration leaks are being pretty big hypocrites.
Greenwald pointed to fellow panelist Carl Bernstein in talking about the value and importance of journalists reporting on important matters based on leaks.
However, he said that peopleDemocrats in particularseem to forget that its not like President Trumps attacks on leaks are without precedent:

(5,272 posts)Democrats still bash Snowden on this site to this day, harping on the laws he broke with no regard to the laws that our government was breaking, and lying to us about.

(10,893 posts)I still think Snowden, Assange, Wikileaks, etc. are just as much low-lives as Trump is.

I use to like Greenwald but he seems to want to damage the Democrats more than Republicans lately and it's disturbing. Is he really more concerned with Democrats right now than with the idiot in the WH????

(19,949 posts)view, I believe he is basing his opinion on a false equivalency, that lowlife acts perpetrated by Republicans and Trump during the Obama years, negate any requirement for balance when it comes to these criminals. What Democrats in general want to do is to improve people's lives, while there is no low point in the baseness of the Republicans and Trump, even to the extent of destroying America's place in the world by their traitorous acts with Putin. He cannot simply equate one with the other.

(32,886 posts)Everyone else should be viewed under the same broad brush as if both situations are the same.
Let's all not forget this just happened:
https://goo.gl/LpijwY
Greenwald complained that the two situations aren't the same. He insisted on nuance.
Here is why its OK that Trump intel officials are leaking and its not OK with Snowden
- Trump is at war with the intelligence community and is trying to undermine them
- Trump and his campaign had inappropriate contact with Russia
- Intel officials have been trying to brief Trump and he seems resistant to taking their advice
- Intel officials are discussing this among themselves to try to figure out how to handle this
- Intel officials aren't looking for publicity for THEMSELVES
Whereas
- Snowden never attempted to approach the President
- His information was not new
- Snowden never attempted to discuss this with colleagues to determine if there was another way to handle the situation. He never made use of the inspector general, he never went to a senator, he never did anything. He wanted to play the hero.

(92,115 posts)interference with our election, or possible collusion of the trump administration with the Russians which may compromise our security
As is typical of Greenwald, when stories don't go the way he likes them, he distorts the focus to distract from the main point.
For several months now, Greenwald has been writing stories to pan the possibility of Russian interference and connection to the trump administration, going so far as to cast negative dispersions on the intelligence
If it turns out that there was Russian interference in our election, and the trump administration was also involved with that, it will be interesting to see how Greenwald tries to squirm his way out of the BS he has been spewing

(19,558 posts)As Greenwald knows, since he's all too aware of what Russia was up to here in the US, and abroad.
The IC community leaking in an attempt to expose Trump's Russian ties is in Greenwald's eyes the same thing? Really, Glenn Greenwald, your biases are showing and it's a tad embarrassing to witness.
Oh, and the Democrats were involved in intel meetings which covered all of this, but their either not leaking, or they are and they're whistleblowers. If it's the latter then the hypocrite here is Greenwald.
