I can't believe he is 90, but I am a lot older now too. lol

Happy Birthday, Sidney Poitier!

"Whenever Poitier walks on stage, excitement walks on with him. He seems to be taking it easy most of the time but with the hidden tension of a coiled spring. In appearance he veers between man and boy. His open grin and handsomely boyish head set off a powerful body. He can be as appealing as a child or show a shattering range of deep adult emotion," wrote entertainment editor Tom Prideaux. "Today, acting and Poitier seem made for each other."

To Sir With Love, one of my all time favorite movies...really shaped my childhood into being the person I am today! Another all time favorite movie that affected who I am today is Billy Jack! Did anyone else here ever see that movie?? Another all-time favorite movie of mine...Sound of Music!!

His movies were pretty much my first significant exposure to anyone of another race and three of his movies had an immense effect on my life. They taught me to look deeply into people to see who and what they are because humanity is way more than skin deep. It goes straight to the heart and soul. Those movies are 'To Sir With Love', 'In the Heat of the Night' and 'Guess Who's Coming to Dinner'. I will always be thankful for the lessons I learned from those films because they taught me that our differences are what we actually have in common.

Just thought of something.....I think every elementary school should be required to show their students "To Sir with Love" and "Billy Jack." But, of course, conservatives would say that it's propaganda!! DeVos would blow a gasket...ha!

I literally walked into him at a supermarket in Nassau over four decades ago. He signed an autograph for my best friend who adores him.

I didn't know that he was born on her aunt's birthday. Her aunt is 95 today.

Happy Birthday Sidney Poiter.

It holds up quite well. Jerry Goldsmith's exquisite score is a personal favorite.

I've never heard anyone utter a negative word about Sidney Poitier, regarding anything. He's always been very generous with foundations and learning institutions that support and further his numerous social issues.
