Trump supporters believed that Hillary Clinton as President would have been the end of America.

So, Donald Trump was a relative option for them.

Anything Donald Trump does is compared to the destruction that Hillary would have caused.

Why did they believe that Hillary was the Devil?

Because they were bombarded with dreadful scenarios every day on right-wing radio and FOX News. Nothing, absolutely nothing, could be as bad as Hillary Clinton. They accepted it as fact.

That is one reason, in my opinion, that they still applaud Donald Trump. He looks like a great success compared to what Hillary might have done. No matter what Trump might do, he could never do the damage that Hillary would have done.

Many more on the right felt that way though. And in fairness I will add that even among those on the left who, in regards to Hillary, "call her a corporatist and minimize her progressive record" only a very small minority of them thought her election would have led to the destruction of America. The vast majority of leftist Hillary skeptics still supported her over Trump, and saw Trump as a threat.

I was not in the camp who felt a deep personal conviction against allowing themselves to once again vote for any candidate who they regarded as a "lesser evil" choice - but I could at least understand how someone could reach that principled conclusion - as wrong as I felt it was in this instance. The ones who went even further than that, identifying (in their minds) Hillary as an equal to or even greater "threat" than Trump had IMO a skewed view of reality. How that came about is fertile grounds for discussion. I had to break with some ex DUers over this, including some with whom I have often agreed with in the past.

Screw every last one of them. They are in the minority and are on numbered days. Let them be angry, defensive and feeling like they're under siege because they are. Just a bunch of knuckle dragging neanderthals with no capacity for critical thinking. Screw them all.

Actually, that's the complete opposite of the truth and facts actually support that to be true, but these guys live in opposite land and the opposite of the truth, as proclaimed by the likes of St. Fox and St. Rush, is the Gospel Truth.

...not to see the damage that so many years of demonization had done to our nominee. No doubt, the right-wing media would have attacked our nominee, no matter who it was. However, the many years of demonizing Hillary had solidified their beliefs. Sort of the way they think about Jane Fonda.

But in a lot of rural areas Clinton was hated.

30 years of character assassination worked.

Also the NRA really worked the gun issue and that's why Clinton lost rural areas.

I live in WV and Sanders won in the primary here but Clinton's comments on coal and her vocal support for gun control over the years made her toxic.

true as long as it is about someone they hate. That unfakes the fake in fake news. The majority of news reported by true journalists is mostly factual. Mostly. The facts that do not fall in line with what Trump has promised or exposes his failings are considered fake.
I think our job as consumers of news is to discern the difference between facts and opinions. Opinion seems to hold more water with conservatives than facts.
Apparently the right considers fake news as only coming from the left or liberal progressive side just to smear conservatives.

I'm waiting for the day when the facts about Trump and Russia are exposed and the right considers those facts to be fake news. Then the Hammer Of Truth Falls. They will probably still deny facts even when the jail cell doors clang shut on the criminals who are taking over our country.

which would put Trump in such a bad light it would take him years to recover.
The news would have to be something containing a semblance of fact. That way he would be trying to explain away something that has a seed a fact and that fact would be the focal point, impossible to deny. And the way the human mind works that fact would expand its itself even after the fake parts fall apart.

This dangerous boob needs to be humiliated and removed from office. He should be shunned as punishment. Dangerously narcisstic isn't a crimes but it should be.
