Since becoming president, Trump has played a lot of golf. Specifically, he has made six trips to the golf course in 30 days. This has caused some people to suggest Trump might be a hypocrite. The White House, which seems sensitive to those allegations, has responded by keeping the press and the public in the dark about Trumps golfing ― sometimes literally, like on Feb. 11, when administration officials made an AP reporter wait in a room with black plastic over the windows while the president played golf.

Trumps golfing this weekend was similarly secret. Late Sunday afternoon, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, a top White House press aide, told reporters Trump had played a couple of holes Saturday and Sunday.
It was more than a couple, and it wasnt all with world leaders: Trump played 18 holes on Sunday with pro golfer Rory McIlroy, whos ranked third in the world; sports agent Nick Mullen; and Richard Levine, a Trump friend, donor and frequent golf partner, McIlroy told golf blog No Laying Up.

Maybe theres a good reason the president doesnt want the press witnessing his golf outings: He vehemently denies it, but hes been repeatedly accused of cheating at golf. Boxer Oscar De La Hoya, actors Anthony Anderson and Samuel L. Jackson, and many others have accused Trump of cheating at golf.

(2,593 posts)Even cheats at golf? I'm not sure how you cheat at golf, but I don't doubt that he does.

(31,261 posts)Golf is about getting a ball in the hole with the fewest swings of a club or putter. There are rules that a person is supposed to follow on every hole and every shot. There are stroke penalties that are supposed to be applied for lost balls, playing the wrong ball, dropping a new ball for play, balls struck and fall outside legal boundaries, teeing a ball up in the rough grass, moving a ball without taking a stroke in fair weather (golfers are allowed to lift by hand, clean and place balls after rainstorms have left mud or standing water in what is normally clean fair playing ground). Trump would cheat, for example, if he takes eight strokes to get a ball into the hole on a Par 4, but tells the group scorer that he took 4 strokes. A good golfer knows when a playing partner is cheating, because good golfers can follow their strokes and those of their playing partners.

(46,700 posts)It will be a compilation of Trump's Tweets from the election to the months following his impeachment. It could turn into a coffee table book, but I fear it is already too long. Especially if it includes the best retorts to his tweets.
Oh, and we might have to change the title to: The Trump Year: 45 - a bump in the road to the Promised Land.

(64,995 posts)I've seen his "official" handicap listing and i've seen his swing. As an avid, and pretty good 60 year old golfer, that guy could not have the handicap he claims unless he cheats.

(31,261 posts)With the finish that I see in photos of him, I can imagine him breaking 110 on 18 holes legally. 110 is about average for recreational golfers that play once per week without practice swings between rounds. I no longer play golf, but used to shoot around 81-84 for 18 holes, legally on a regular basis, when I played and practiced some.

(64,995 posts)But, it's not a 3 handicap on a pro layout swing. It's a bit over the top and there is no shaft deflection, so his swing speed has to be under 85, maybe less since he can afford to have a shaft that matches his speed. I saw him hit a pretty good sand shot on TV, but of course that's probably because he spend so much time in the traps he's used to it.
I can see him breaking a hundred, assuming he's playing the senior tees, but that's about it.
He claims to be a 4.5, so he's got to be shaving a shot on nearly every hole.

(19,972 posts)Golf can be used as a temporary escape from the real world. That may be why Presidents often play the game. For a couple hours they can forget having the weight of the world on their shoulders and focus on the nuances of making golf shots. TheRump didn't know what he was getting himself into and is likely to escape that reality as much as he possibly can.
