(112,118 posts)Farenthold did have two town hall meetings in the town where I live during 2016.
However, I do turn over the tabloids if the covers have negative articles about Hillary, Bill or Obama.

(10,252 posts)this man is related to Sissy Farenthold, who is best known for her two campaigns for the office of Governor of Texas and for being placed in nomination for the office of Vice President of the United States during the 1972 Democratic National Convention.

(138 posts)That they've elected this ass-hat is no surprise. For such a traditionally Democratic demographic, it's disheartening to see it becoming more and more conservative as time passes. I've never understood why so many people down there willingly vote against their best interests. Very disappointing.

(14,570 posts)The Left Hand of God, by Rabbi Michael Lerner, and The Righteous Mind, by Jonathan Haidt.
I'm sure these don't elucidate the ONLY reasons, but the arguments each book makes are a good start.
No spoilers here, but in a nutshell, both authors address spirituality and values of conservatives vs liberals, and talk about how we need to change the way we talk to conservatives about liberal values.
And, you know, it is a point. Laughing at them, ridiculing them on national TV, and calling them stupid nut-jobs hasn't really worked very well...

(136 posts)The Corpus Christi area itself isn't all that bad (although it has regressed). Congressional District 27 was re-drawn after the 2010 census, and, as you might recall, it was gerrymandered to by the GOP-dominated legislature to bring in conservative-voting counties from the mid-Gulf Coast and some other inland (also conservative) areas.
In its previous version TX-27 elected Democratic candidates. The current iteration has many more red-leaning counties, which effectively dilutes the voting power of Democratic areas in CC and other nearby counties.
That's how we got stuck with the Alfred E. Nuemann uber-clown!
Hoping and praying for more voters to register and start moving TX-27 to the middle.

(138 posts)I share your sentiments. However, like me, most liberal minded individuals tend to seek the Democratic Mecca that is Austin (myself included). I think that's the fly in the ointment.

(10,495 posts)He is such an industry hack it is sickening! We are calling and writing even though we have Cornholio Coryn and Terrible Ted Cruz as our Senators and asshats like Randy Weber as Congressman.

(112,118 posts)as to which congressional district in Texas has the worst representative. Weber is pretty horrible, but I think that Gohmert still retains the title.

(10,495 posts)I agree Gohmert is the all-time champ at idiocy!

(13,421 posts)Republican Congressman Rodney Davis refuses to meet with anybody live, so we created "Flat Rodney" to show up at events and "fill in" for him. The tweets have been witty and fairly to the point. He's been so successful that neighboring districts have created their own versions of their reps too.
