CBS This Morning just pointed out that Donald Trump's travel this year could cost more than the cost of President Obama's travel over eight years. The reported began by mentioning that Trump has been at Mar-A-Lago for 11 of his 33 days in office and his three trips in a row have cost taxpayers about $10 million. Then there was a breakdown of the costs of getting Trump to and from Mar-A-Lago. Next, the report brought up Trump's criticism of President Obama's presidential travel. Then it gave the cost of eight years of President Obama's travel followed by the tidbit that Trump was on pace to surpass that number by the end of this year.
The report then moved on to pointing out the cost in lost business when Trump travels to Mar-A-Lago. Because planes are grounded when Trump is in town nothing goes in and nothing goes out of the area. As a result, the cost in lost business is $33,000 for each trip. The report ended on a high note for Trump in that someone who welcomed Trump's weekly travel was featured. A high end boutique owner stated that Donald Trump's visits would increase the number of high end shoppers who would visit the area and that would help everyone at the high end of the scale.
I imagine Republicans are going to say, but, but, Donald Trump is not just traveling to play golf with his rich friends like President Obama did when he traveled around the world and the United States; Trump is working while at Mar-A-Lago. I also imagine they will say, so what, Donald Trump needs a break because of the mess that President Obama left him and he is working so much harder than President Obama ever worked when he was in the White House. They will most likely say they did not have a problem with President Obama taking vacations. They just did not like that he never seemed to do his job and he was taking vacations when so many Americans were trying to find jobs, but could not gain full time employment. I am pretty certain they will claim 93 million American were unemployed during President Obama's time in office and that number has started to come down since Donald Trump election.

(5,730 posts)He never planned on winning, which probably made it easier to win, as it was all a game. So, he took risks.
It was in that sense a win/win. Ill either make a lot of money after the run and, what the hell, if I win, I'll be President, and then ill make a lot of money.

His team has already has a lot of the Trump masses convinced the Trump has done more in his first month than many presidents do in a year or 4 years, even though it was easily proven false (Obama did way more his first month...)

(9,350 posts)I was not clear, but I meant Republican heads would explode with anger toward the press due to it being reported that Donald Trump is costing taxpayers millions of dollars. They do not want it to be reported that it is costing taxpayers more money to take care of Donald Trump than it cost to take care of Barack Obama. They also do not want it to be reported that Trump is working less that Obama.

I would rarely leave the White House because theres so much work to be done, Trump, 69, tells ITK. "I would not be a president who took vacations. I would not be a president that takes time off.

Yes, I would live in the White House because its the appropriate thing to do, he says.

(37,748 posts)I remember the allegations floating around the conservative media in regards to Obama's trip to India said to cost $200 million a day and using up to one-third of the navy for escort (Michelle Bachmann, Glen Beck, etc.).
In fact, Bachmann said "He's taking two thousand people with him. He'll be renting out over 870 rooms in India. And these are 5-star hotel rooms at the Taj Mahal Palace hotel. This is the kind of over-the-top spending, it's a very small example, Anderson."
I doubt she'll make any mention of Trump's dacha in Florida... wouldn't be politic.

(7,624 posts)Less surveillance than the WH by far and he's no doubt busting his ass here alright: busily destroying the government.
I live in the same town and Trump's visits are not helping business one bit. Those high end buyers are here irregardless and travel thru Palm Beach and West Palm is quite restricted and completely contrary to those claims - this hurts local restaurants and shops significantly.
Someone in the MSM needs to interview some of the many bizz owners who can attest to this demonstrable fact easily.

Just imagine what would have happened if Michelle holed up with the girls in a tower in Chicago that cost 400,000 a day to provide security for.
Tyey make money off ALL of it, Trump Tower provide income to them, the trips his kids are making to open hotels and the such, and of course Mar a Lago.
Fucking grifters.
There is a LOT going on, but dems should absolutely be up the Rs asses in congress demanding that they find a way to require that the 45 clan reimburse the tax payers for security on any venture that makes their family business money.

Every GOP President and administration has fun up the deficit and Federal employment since and including Reagan. They don't care and it actually made them angry when Bill Clinton reduced the deficit and left a balanced budget.
Same way they were angry when Obama caught and killed Osama bin Laden. They are the worst kind of ilk.
