So, our new outfielder Dexter Fowler, is married to a woman who immigrated from Iran to America as a child. They had planned to visit Iran in the off season so his wife and daughter could see the Cousins and Aunts and Uncles.
You know to do some of that - FAMILY STUFF - that the "family Values" folks talk about when they discuss white people but disregard for anyone too dark?
But due to the uncertainty surrounding 45's travel ban and court cases it spawned, they cancelled the trip and Fowler characterized that as "Unfortunate"
I know right? What a radical he is. Practically a New Black Panther Party manifesto right there.
Well the ever present "Get A Brain Moran" Redbird supporters went absolutely insane (Insaner? they were never that tightly wrapped to begin with) and began heaping abuse and venom all around the Internets.
St Louis is a nice place (REALLY. NO LIE. THE LOU IS COOL) surrounded by Outer Trumpolia and the fan base includes a large contingent of folks who automatically disliked Dexter... After all, he is guilty of Melanin possession, a capital crime to a lot of these "fans".

(3,208 posts)I live in Outer Trumpolia (and thanks for naming it that!). I love to visit the city, but too much people and not enough natural space for me, so I am stuck out here!
I have been reading about this and it is sad. The guy made a comment about how his family is being adversely affected by the new administration and all the hate poured out from people who call themselves fans. I guess they see Fowler as there to serve them and they don't want to be concerned with the fact that he is actually a human being in his own right!
I am hoping that surely at some point they are going to get out of defense mode and see what their choice is doing to our country, cause it ain't going to be pretty (based on what we have seen so far).

(13,186 posts)It's a 20 minute drive to the metro-link and a 40 minute ride to the Stadium - but my wife and I do get into town now and again.
We agree on the country life though. we got used to plenty space between our neighbors and quiet streets. There may only be 3 or 4 cars going past our house on any given day.
Next trip, set aside a couple hours and see the National Blues Museum, it's worth it

(14,811 posts)Been a fan since the late 50's & for the last 20 years or so the scarcity of black players here & the way many of them have been treated by management has been embarrassing.

(13,186 posts)Our Hockey team had more POC players than the Cardinals.
A big slice of Redbird nation were pretty satisfied with that situation.

(13,186 posts)Ask about the "Best Fans In Baseball" label.
Normal people will chuckle and say that it's a tag from lazy sports writers and even lazier PR folks. They'll say things like "baseball fans are pretty much just baseball fans every where" or something similar.
"Get a brain morans" fans swallow that nonsense like 25 oz can of Busch Light and preen like it means they have been singled out for praise somehow.
