If everyone who is eligible actually voted, the coalition of fundamentalist religious fanatics, racists, and ignorant but extremely loyal rural Republican voters that make up their base wouldn't stand a chance, even taking into account the mechanics of the electoral college. That's why they're so focused on suppressing the votes of rural blacks and Latinos, etc.

Whether they like it or not, the orange shitgibbon-in-charge is the face of their party, and they have to maintain the pretense of unity or risk losing the confidence of their so-far reliable voters, many of whom have a cult-like adoration for SCROTUS.
