General Discussion
Related: Editorials & Other Articles, Issue Forums, Alliance Forums, Region ForumsThis is one of many of my passions, please bear with me as I
share a little of my background, please?
In 1984, I was 16 the man I lived with 18 yrs. older than me kidnapped me and held me in a cage in a basement for a little over 6 weeks. I'm not going to get into the details of what transpired during that time, as a lot of you probably wouldn't quite understand what it is. I was held while he tried to find a 'buyer' in other words, he was trying to sell me into human trafficking.
Many women, especially on reservations is aware of what could happen to them. Since the oil fields in N. Dakota, there have been numerous incidences some not getting reported. I was a lucky one, I got rescued. Many do not.
Sexual assaults on the male population has increased by 75% in that area, she continued. That kind of statistic makes maximum security prisons look like the minor league. One of the things we ran into while working up there was a 15 year old boy had gone missing. He was found in one of the Man Camps with one of the oil workers. They were passing him around from trailer to trailer.
He went there looking for a job and was hired by individuals within the Man Camp to do light cleaning in and around their personal areas. The young teenager was forced into sex slavery. Its the kind of thing you hear about in the ghettos of third world countries; not in the quiet and remote countryside.
The victims arent just males but females too. Everyone has heard by now of the missing school teacher that was kidnapped as she was out jogging, repeatedly sexually assaulted, and murdered near one of these Man Camps. The age of the Man Camp victims varies. The assailants are not necessarily looking for male and female adults. They are also going after little girls.
Grace Her Many Horse recalls one specific instance where We found a crying, naked, four year old girl running down one of the roads right outside of the Man Camp. She had been sexually assaulted.

I think it is going to get worse with 45. Please get this out? Our First Nations People have had generations of abuse, it's time for it to stop.

(72,300 posts)Congressional Republicans headed by Eric Cantor are stalling on reauthorizing the Violence Against Women Act (VAWA). The Senate has already passed a bill that increases protection for Native, LGBT and undocumented immigrant women.
It seems the latest sticking point is our Native sisters.
But two sources familiar with negotiations on VAWA, both of whom requested anonymity given the sensitive nature of talks, have told HuffPost that Cantor is refusing to accept any added protections for Native American women that would give expanded jurisdiction to tribes, and is pressuring Democrats to concede on that front.

Yes sage, it will get worse under 45 and the GOP holding both Senate and House. You know that they will never fully support a reauthorization of VAWA as it stands.
For you, sage.
