Infrastructure spending was supposed to be a priority for Trump and for Democrats. So why has it become an afterthought in Washington?
Donald Trump likes to build things. So it wasnt surprising that Trump, on the campaign trail, frequently lamented the state of Americas roads, highways, bridges, and airports, promising to repair them and build bigger and better infrastructure as president.
His talk of putting millions to work in modernizing the countrys transit infrastructure was a big part of his unorthodox appeal, and helped boost his credibility with the blue-collar voters he won overwhelmingly on election day.
Since then, however, Trumps presidency has been mired in missteps and staff intrigue. On Capitol Hill, the Republican majority is swamped, focusing all their energies on a plan to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act, all while trying to push through Trumps Cabinet picks past a recalcitrant Democratic minority.
Far from being a top-line priority, infrastructure plans have fallen rapidly down the Washington to-do list. So what happened to those big dreams, and what does it mean for Minnesota?

(20,828 posts)Infrastructure spending used to be ways to bring money back to your district. The way Trump wants it structured means it will bring money back only to the districts with deep pocketed construction firms. It creates a few local temp construction jobs but most of the money could end up funneled back to a few districts. Thus it is no surprise neither Dems or Repugs have move hard to pass a bill on this or at least the ones that understand how Trump system would work aren't so eager.
