Check out this LTTE in the Louisville Courier Journal

Dear Senator McConnell,

Today I attended the Anderson County Chamber of Commerce event in Lawrenceburg, Kentucky. I had attempted to purchase a ticket to be inside to hear you speak, but when I called I was told the event was sold out, so I ended up being among the many who stood outside.

Because I had hoped to have the opportunity to ask you a question, I guessed that others attending might also have welcomed the chance to ask you a question, so I walked around and asked people this question: “If you were inside this event, and could ask Sen. McConnell only one question, what would your question be?”

I explained that my plan was to write down every question and mail them to your office.

Here are the questions your constituents would like to have been able to ask:

(all 70+ of them!)

4. Here are the questions:

Feb 2017

Why are you not in favor of an independent investigation into a Russian connection to the Trump campaign?
Do you really truly believe we can bring coal miners' jobs back?
What do you see as the federal government’s role in making sure Kentuckians have clean air and clean water?
Why do you think (Judge Neil) Gorsuch should have a Supreme Court hearing when Trump has already begun campaigning for 2020? You firmly stated you were against having hearings during campaigns.
Why is it you don’t hear so many people?
My Russian is poor, but we need to protect Obamacare – what is your replacement, and if it’s not as good, don’t repeal.
How do you justify putting a person (Scott Pruitt) who has sued the Environmental Protection Agency 19 times in charge of the EPA?
Please ask yourself – What would John Sherman Cooper do?
Why are you standing behind Trump?
Why did you feel like you had the right to silence Elizabeth Warren?
Will you cross party lines and stand up to Trump?
I had to retire early to care for my terminally ill husband. If my health care goes away, I’ll be flying in the wind. How are you going to make sure Americans have health care insurance? Fix the ACA; don’t repeal. Look at Kentucky’s kynect program for how to do this.
Why won’t you investigate Trump’s connections with Russia?
Do you have any pre-existing conditions?
How much involvement do you have with this Russian scandal – by not insisting on a bi-partisan investigation, you are implicating yourself?
Why exactly do you think people with mental illness should have access to guns?
Is your Republican Party more important than our country’s well-being?
What is your plan to insure health coverage for all Kentucky’s children?
I also do not like fake news, so I want to know, where do you get real news?
Why are you not investigating Trump’s ties to Russia because national security is so important?
Why are you willing to part with your principles and values to accommodate a despot?
Why won’t you answer your phone calls?
Where is the independent commission on the Russian hacking, and how much did anyone in the Republican Party know about this?
Why are you not honoring the sacred oath you’ve taken to protect the Constitution?
Why are you ignoring your constituents?
Why do you represent special interests and big money instead of your constituents?
Why did you decide to vote in favor of polluting streams in Eastern Kentucky by allowing coal waste to be dumped into streams?
Why is there not an independent investigation into Russian ties?
Who is going to buy the coal from the coal jobs you are making?
Why do you run around embarrassing Kentucky and picking on women? (Apologize to Warren)
Since you were the person who threatened the CIA and the FBI before the election and said that if they released information on Trump and Russia without having all the facts you would file lawsuits against them, do you think you will be responsible for paying for Trump’s impeachment if the facts lead to that?
Why have you allowed lobbyists to give you and other Senators gifts?
Why did you vote for Betsy DeVos when she was so unbelievably unqualified for the position?
How to you sleep at night making decisions that rape our land?
If obstruction was so good eight years ago, why is it so bad now?
How does allowing our water to be poisoned help people and the economy?
How are you going to take care of the health insurance and health care needs of those who lose health insurance when the Affordable Care Act is repealed?
When will you listen to your constituents by opening your phone lines and other ways of contacting you?
How is it possible for you to not care about health care for your constituents?
How can you allow children and hospitals to be bombed by Russians and the Assad government and not take any action?
Why don’t you and other representatives request the president to show his tax returns?
Why are you covering up Trump’s lies instead of speaking out on them?
How are you going to hold Trump accountable for his lies and ties to Russia?
Do you really think all the contributions from big energy, from Betsy DeVos, and others with vested interests outweigh the wishes and best interests of Kentuckians whom you represent?
Why do you feel you need to support your party over the good of the people of Kentucky and the country?
Haven’t you made enough money yet?
For fourteen years, I worked for Baer in Louisville in a variety of positions. I commuted to Louisville from Lawrenceburg because of the health insurance. Then Baer closed in 2008. Until the Affordable Care Act, my only plan for facing a health problem was to burn through my savings and then declare bankruptcy. Thanks to the ACA that is no longer my plan. Do you really want me to go back to that plan?
How can we be in support of charter schools in a poor state that already lacks enough money for education?
How do you justify two laws, passed in D.C. 12 or so years ago, that deny Kentucky’s retired teachers their spousal Social Security survivor benefits? (For example a teacher married to a doctor can never receive social security survivor benefits if her husband dies because she receives income from the Kentucky Teachers Retirement account.)
How can you support Trump – even my 95-year-old lifelong Republican mother could not bring herself to support such a mentally unstable person – how can you?
How can you support a president who treats others with such disrespect? For example, not paying people he hired and admitting this practice.
Why do you push through the confirmation of so many inappropriate and unqualified people?
Why do you consistently place party loyalty above your duty to your country?
How do you sleep?
How can you ignore the needs of Kentuckians and instead be driven by greed?
My sister was murdered by her husband, so I want to know why you sponsored the violence against women act only to vote against it?
Why don’t you represent your constituents instead of representing the corporations and PACS that pay you?
Now that Republicans are in power you have said that coal mining jobs will not return and that this is an economic issue, not a political issue. Why have you lied to coal miners and their families for so many years by telling them this was a political issue?
When will you admit that your support of fracking helped undermine the coal industry?
How are you and your fellow Republicans going to control Trump when he threatens to take away freedoms like the First Amendment?
What are you, as Majority leader, going to do to bring this country together?
Why do you shut out the constituents who don’t agree with you? You represent us too.
Why did you treat Obama like you did, but now you ask Trump’s opposition not to reciprocate?
Why don’t you live in Kentucky?
Why does the fetus have more bodily autonomy than a fully-developed grown woman?
Why didn’t you stop Bernie Sanders when he was reading the same letter you stopped Elizabeth Warren from reading?
How can you look your constituents in the face when you have allowed coal waste to be dumped into streams and you have not acted to safeguard the coal miner’s retirement funds?
Why does Congress not subpoena Trump’s tax returns?
Have you no shame (in reference to claiming your proudest accomplishment has been to thwart Barack Obama)? What does this say about your character?
Why did you vote for DeVos for Secretary of Education when Kentucky has worked so hard on our education system?
What will you do for the adult mentally handicapped and the mentally ill?Why are you selling Kentuckians and the U.S. out?
Why was it okay for you to be an obstructionist, but now you tell Democrats obstructing is wrong?
When are you going to have a town hall for Kentuckians?
Why do you refuse to meet with your constituents?
Why do you continue to be against humane legislation for animals?
How can you live with yourself when people will die without the ACA?
How can you live with enacting laws that could potentially enrich President Trump and his family when you have no idea what Trump’s financial interests are? For example, tax records and failure to divest – transparency and consistency are needed from all public office holders.
Are you concerned about the millions of dollars already spent in one month on security for Trump and his family?

I was only able to talk with a little over 10 percent of the people there, based on a conservative estimate of about 500 people present.

Nevertheless, this information provides you with the opportunity to learn more about what was on the minds of your constituents today in Lawrenceburg.

Should you happen to answer any of these questions, I will gladly post your answers to Facebook to help more people see that you have indeed paid attention to questions from constituents and responded to them.
