'Trump Slump,' TheTravel Press is Reporting a Devastating Drop in Tourism to the United States

U.S. Sees Major Drop In Tourism - Political Wire

Frommer's

Experts across the travel industry are warning that masses of tourists are being scared away from visiting the United States, and the loss of tourism jobs could be devastating.

“Though they may differ as to the wisdom of the move, the travel press and most travel experts are of one mind: They are currently drawing attention to an unintended consequence of the Trump-led efforts to stop many Muslims from coming to the U.S., pointing to a sharp drop in foreign tourism to our nation that imperils jobs and touristic income.”

“It’s known as the ‘Trump Slump.’ And I know of no reputable travel publication to deny it.”

“Thus, the prestigious Travel Weekly magazine (as close to an ‘official’ travel publication as they come) has set the decline in foreign tourism at 6.8%. And the fall-off is not limited to Muslim travelers, but also extends to all incoming foreign tourists. Apparently, an attack on one group of tourists is regarded as an assault on all.”

1. I'm sure it's not just the Muslim ban. The optics aren't too good what with ICE agents

busting down doors & hauling Hispanic folks away. Would you even want to visit a country where agents dragged a woman being treated for a brain tumor out of the hospital to throw her in a detention center? I sure as hell wouldn't want to give my money to a place like that.

and eventually stifle our economic recovery.

Perhaps the underlying strength of the economy is strong enough to absorb all that he's going to throw at it. But I doubt it.

There are dozens of beautiful places in the world that are still free.

Is there some unwritten rule that we have to hit rock bottom before we get any sense in this country?

If I wasn't an American I would not want to come here as a tourist. I AM American & I do not want to fly now because I'm afraid there will be Trump nuts on the plane harassing some poor person.

11. 6.8% is a DIRECT loss of $17 Billion dollars to the economy. Ripple effect is much worse.
Fri Feb 24, 2017, 03:29 AM

That's only the DIRECT effect.

When businesses start failing and closing as a result, then job losses and economic activity drops throughout the economy.

Fewer tourists mean fewer motels built which means fewer construction jobs. There will be fewer maid and cleaning service jobs, fewer farmers able to sell pigs for bacon, fewer rental cars repaired by American mechanics, and many more effects.

Florida will be particularly badly hit.
