The big news is not the FBI leaks. Its whats in the leaks.

The big news is not the FBI leaks. It’s what’s in the leaks.

..........

By making the conversation all about leaks — rather than the veracity of the information that the leaks contain — Trump is turning the conversation more in his favor. He knows his base thinks the media is terrible and therefore anyone who willingly co-operates with them — leakers — must be even worse.

But here's the thing: While plenty of leaks are frivolous attempts by junior staffers to puff themselves up, there are some that are a necessary part of democracy. Leaking out information that exposes wrongdoing is often a courageous act of citizenship. To put a blanket over all leaks as bad is to oversimplify.

And, again, the most important thing in these leaks is to ascertain whether the information is true, not hunt down the leakers. Trump's tweets this morning seem to confirm that the CNN report is right, meaning that Priebus clearly broke the rules. That Trump doesn't get that suggests a deep tone-deafness — whether purposeful or not.

what's being leaked. All these complaints about leaking could backfire very badly on SCROTUS & Co. They don't seem to be able to recognize when they are lighting an exploding cigar.

That is a violation of law.

Whenever discussing leaks, state the content of the leaks plainly and starkly.

As you say, make it about the content.

It isn't by chance. It is deliberate. They want to make the simpering Repub masses so pissed off about the leaks that they ignore the leaked info. They will choose to or be so stupid, they call it fake news. These folks arent reading the WaPo. The leaked info would have anyone else impeached, but when you have the AG, FBI, House, Chaffetz's investgative commitee, Senate, etc. supressing and distoring facts that they have a vested interest in keeping under wraps, then it is easy to get those agencies to focus on how BAD the SOURCES are.

This is just like what happened to Dan Rather with the George Bush national guard story. Dan Rather reports that Bush skipped his national guard duty, except for maybe a couple or so times. This was the National Guard duty that his dad used to get him out of Vietnam. Repubs went nuts, demanded Rather be fired because one of his sources was questionsble. No one questioned that the story was true...the Pres of the US was a no show for his military duty. The whole story became about one of the sources. Rather was fired after about 40 years as a reporter, and they put that baby to rest.

Wanna bet that if they can find a couple of sources of the leaks, they fire them and say, we took care of that one.
