The Department of Homeland Security announced Friday that it will soon begin soliciting bids "for the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico." Bidding begins March 6. The official posting says the administration will select the companies to potentially build the new structure sometime in April.

The solicitation appears to correspond to President Trump's highly publicized pledge to build a new border wall along the US-Mexico border. "We're going to build a wall, don't worry about it," Trump said at the Conservative Political Action Conference on Friday. "We're building the wall. We're building the wall. In fact, it's going to start soon. Way ahead of schedule, way ahead of schedule."

That would save a lot of money, not to mention that it would be a highly skilled hard working group.

Maybe I have been looking at the ICE raids all wrong. Perhaps the are just recruiters/head hunters for Trump's wall.

Still operating on a continuing resolution. I can't see how the can put out a bid for a contract without then awarding a contract. Where is the authority to commit funds on a contract?

What a waste of time for whoever is in charge of drafting bid requests...

The timeline is only reasonable for someone who already has a bid ready to submit

"The Dept. of Homeland Security, Customs and Border Protection (CBP) intends on issuing a solicitation in electronic format on or about March 6, 2017 for the design and build of several prototype wall structures in the vicinity of the United States border with Mexico.

The procurement will be conducted in two phases, the first
requiring vendors to submit a concept paper of their prototype(s) by March 10, 2017, which will result in the evaluation and down select of offerors by March 20, 2017.
The second phase will require the down select of phase 1 offerors to submit proposals in response to the full RFP by March 24, 2017,
which will include price.
Multiple awards are contemplated by mid-April for this effort.
An option for additional miles may be included in each contract award.

I think they can access some $ leftover from a previous border fence allocation...
But may not even be sufficient to pay for the first section ... which I read (somewhere) was supposed to be only like 155 miles....

This is all just a way to hurry up & award a contract to a foreign company that has been pre-selected...
this will lock in a contract & they can say oh... no US companies submitted a prototype proposal .... we offered it to everyone equally... but oh well...

Once they award a contract then that will be the talking point... congress will be bullied into allocating funds because the agreement/contract will already be awarded...and only "hold up" on American Safety (crap) will then be those "not loyal American persistors"

What a "made for television production" this will turn into...
