WASHINGTON - The Trump administration has enlisted senior members of the intelligence community and Congress in efforts to counter news stories about Trump associates' ties to Russia, a politically charged issue that has been under investigation by the FBI as well as lawmakers now defending the White House.
Acting at the behest of the White House, the officials made calls to news organizations last week in attempts to challenge stories about alleged contacts between members of President Donald Trump's campaign team and Russian intelligence operatives, U.S. officials said.
The effort also involved senior lawmakers with access to classified intelligence about Russia, including Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C.,
and Rep. Devin Nunes, R-Calif., the chairmen of the Senate and House intelligence committees.
A spokesman for Nunes said that he had already begun speaking to reporters to challenge the story and then "at the request of a White House communications aide, Chairman Nunes then spoke to an additional reporter and delivered the same message."
Unlike the others, Nunes spoke on the record and was subsequently quoted in the Wall Street Journal.
The Chairman of the Intelligence Comm. has already decided there is nothing to the story, AND is publicly supporting Trump's version
before the Comm. has even investigated it!!!
My feeling, based on a lot of reports I have been reading this past week, is Trump is covering how much he is indebted
to Russian money laundering, since the 1990's.
He is REALLY scared of what is being discovered, and damn if the Congress is gonna give him a free ride to cover it up.

(365 posts)Confirms what we all feared was happening in this mock congressional investigation. Good that this came out about Nunes/Burr. If you are actively helping to coverup, then you cannot lead a viable investigation. SPECIAL PROSECUTOR AND INDEPENDENT INVESTIGATION NOW!

(14,167 posts)But I think the Indivisible groups should still mobilize in the CA's 22nd Congressional District and apply some serious pressure to Nunes. He got over 60% in his last election, but the landscape has been changing. We need to recruit a strong challenger and brand him as a traitor to his country.
Who is Nunes loyal to, The United States of America, or the Grand Old Party of Putin?
Same thing with Burr? We need to turn the Republicans' nasty tricks right back on them. Remember how Kerry got Swiftboated? All these Republicans need to face elections where their face is superimposed over the Russian flag.

(34,661 posts)start seeing the light of day. For many years, there have been stories in the Business Blurbs about his association and intertwined business relationships with Russian Chemical and Oil Oligarchs especially in the Ukraine. Years back, there was a story about a US Ethenol Plant building Contractor building plants in Poland and the Ukraine. Remember Ross being involved with the finance or the arranging of the finance of these plants.
These folks in and around Trump sure make the Mob look like choir boys.
