Show of hands, DUers: Who has been in person at a political event since Jan 20, 2017?

This could a meeting of your local Dem committee.

A school board or city council meeting.

A march.

A protest.

Anything.

Lest you ask, Sparkly and I have been to the January 21 march in DC and to two local Dem meetings (one before Jan 20) Not much yet being asked of us (or anyone) so far, but we're ready. We also attended the Sanctuary County hearings at our county council meeting.

Haven't been able to go to anything else. My husband has been spending most of his time dealing with his mother's estate (she died Jan. 12) and I rely on him taking me places when the parking is tight. I do NOT drive my truck anywhere where it is difficult to park.

I am keeping track of local events but probably will not be able to participate until after we visit myu Mom in March for her 96th birthday.

ETA - I did go to former Rep.Gwen Graham's birthday party which was essentially a campaign event. She is running for Florida Governor. If she is anywhere near as good a governor as her father, Bob Graham, was she will be fantastic after three Republicans in a row!

I've gotten auto-replies from Ted Cruz.

I attended an advocacy seminar sponsored by my local state senator. They actually recommended emails as a form of communication. Of course, a local visit is always more effective, but it isn't practical. They said they read all of their emails.

The problem with postcards, the message needs to be short. Emails allow a more in-depth method of communication. I sent a detailed email to Cornyn about my opposition to Jeff Sessions. I wrote about concerns for civil rights and voting rights.

The local Congressman refuses to hold any sort of in person event. He referred to us all as paid protesters and "the opposition" recently in a couple interviews, then held a marginally functional "tele-town hall" that did nothing to improve his constituent relations. He's also feeling a bit cranky because of a social media campaign called "Flat Rodney's Big Adventure" which incorporates both Facebook and Twitter. (One local kid heard about it and responded with, "That is SAVAGE, man!&quot

Mon Feb 27, 2017, 01:16 AM
Feb 2017

at that time was huge! We don't really have a major airport where I live, and we were leaving for London to visit my partner's family. Nothing going on by the time we got to an international airport. WomensMarch was huge and important. It united the world. Proud. Still, you people who managed to storm the airports after DT's outrageous, unconstitutional order, with no notice, when the taxi services were shut down (& thank u to them too, and Lyft), was profound. Keeping innocent refugees out when we have contributed to destroying their homes and families is immoral, not to mention the non refugees whose lives were disturbed.

I also do lots of phone calls and emails. Votes coming up or going down. I don't know how much it matters, but i usually get responses, so together we make a strong wind. No response from Turtleman...can't leave a message...we are closed if after business hours and busy with overwhelming phone calls during business hours.
Mostly, I put my efforts to those who might care.

Thank you. I felt a lost moment of pride to be an American.

Mon Feb 27, 2017, 12:21 AM

We all need to encourage them as they get older and can't get around like they used to. Not meaning you were discouraging them, but in general the older people sometimes need this pointed out to them. Even if they stay home, they can help with calls. We had a group of older people in my state , some in walkers.. go to the Congressmans office and had the law called on them for daring to show up. I think this scared a lot of them in my group into being more fearful of what could happen to them getting politically active. Check the link below.

And thank you! My husband is marching right along with me. I've never seen him this mad.
