Devin Nunes (R-CA): Investigating Trump & Russia is McCarthyism, witch hunt against American people

The Republican head of the House Intelligence Committee dismissed calls for an investigation into ties between the Trump administration and Russian intelligence officials saying it would be a “witch hunt against the American people.”

Speaking at the California Republican Party’s spring convention in Sacramento, intel chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) compared accusations against the Trump White House to “McCarthyism,” reports Politico.

“This is almost like McCarthyism revisited,” Nunes told the attendees. “We’re going to go on a witch hunt against, against innocent Americans.”

According to Nunes, he doesn’t see enough warning signs from U.S. intelligence agency investigations to warrant hearings.

History indicates that indeed, some forms of false equivalency actually register as effective, this however NOT being one of them.

12. Nunes pressures Pentagon to do something to make US less safe re Russia

Pentagon is installing a new intelligence gathering base in Britain (RAF Croughton) which will facilitate intelligence gathering and bring together analysts from EUCOM, AFRICOM, and NATO. If this base goes to the Azores instead it will likely make intelligence gathering and analysis less effective.

Nunes wants this U.S. facility in the more isolated Azores (his ancestral home) and has been insisting that Pentagon change plans.

Pentagon has many issues with Azores location, inappropriateness due to isolation, huge costs, and claims any change in plans now will create long delays and makes less safe regarding Russia. NATO wants the facility in Britain

Trump is in a position to help Nunes with his fight against the Pentagon. Putin undoubtedly would also prefer the Azores location.

Trump, Putin, and Nunes on one side, and US security and alliances, including NATO, on the other.

Ted "Anointed One" Cruz & Dumpf, in spreading distrust by innuendo are masters of modern McCarthyism. SCROTUS' campaign ties to Russia are fact. The extent of those ties needs investigation. No innuendo necessary
